Season 2 status for Lanterns: where the HBO DCU series stands now
HBO’s Lanterns has one mystery bigger than any plot twist: whether it’s coming back for another season.
The first season will close with a full stop, not a tease. Co-creator Damon Lindelof says the finale of Lanterns lands October 4, 2026 on HBO and wraps its central mystery cleanly. There’s no official order for Season 2 yet, but behind the scenes the creative team is already sketching out where the Green Lantern story could head next.
“But I think Chris Mundy has already started a new writers’ room, figuring out what new stories could be for ‘Lanterns’,” he said.
Lindelof shared the update in a ScreenRant interview, adding that a renewal will come down to how the show performs. The series has clicked out of the gate — audiences pushed it to an 8.0 on IMDb soon after premiere — with a thriller setup that pairs John Stewart and Hal Jordan inside James Gunn ’s DC Universe.

John Stewart isn’t staying confined to TV. Aaron Pierre, who plays the character on the show, is set to suit up again in Gunn’s Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow. Pierre recently described how the series became a months-long boot camp for the role before cameras roll on the movie.
“I can't say much, but what I can say is what a gift it was to have had six months consecutively of six day weeks and a minimum of 12 hour days to live with John and excavate his character before going into Man of Tomorrow,” he said.
Elsewhere in the Corps, Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner is already bouncing around the DCU. He appears in the 2025 Superman movie and turns up again in Peacemaker Season 2, with more cameos expected as Gunn’s connected slate rolls on.
For now, October 4, 2026 is the circle date: that’s when Season 1 signs off on HBO. A second season remains unannounced as the team waits on the network’s call.
