If you’re burned out on canned promo, The Love Hypothesis press tour actually feels fresh—and the reason isn’t what you’d expect.

The promo run for The Love Hypothesis keeps serving bite-size rom-com moments in the wild: a now-viral one-armed lift from Lili Reinhart and Tom Bateman that reportedly racked up 84 million views on TikTok, matching looks, and crowd-pleasing banter that leans all the way into the fantasy instead of pretending it ’s something edgier.

The clearest tell is Reinhart’s wardrobe. Rather than cycling through standard premiere gowns, she’s been “method dressing” the genre — showing up in deliberate nods to iconic romance movies her stylist framed as a tribute to the Golden Age of rom-coms and sweeping love stories.

  • How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
  • 13 Going on 30
  • Ever After
  • Atonement

It reads less like a press tour and more like a little cinematic universe of references, a wink to the audience that knows these movies by heart. The message lands: this team isn’t embarrassed by romance — it’s the point.

Behind the curtain, on purpose

That playful tone extends to how they talk about making the thing. At a Prime Book Club stop, Reinhart and Bateman shared that one intimate scene went late enough they were still filming at 4 a.m. and ordered McDonald’s to “keep it real.” The juxtaposition is catnip for fans of the genre: grand swoon on screen, french fries off it.

They’re also meeting readers where they live online. Reinhart’s first teases for the movie arrived via her own TikTok, and that one-armed lift turned into a social calling card for the pairing — exactly the kind of flirty, low-stakes spectacle that rom-com marketing thrives on when it remembers to have fun.

In on the fandom

The adaptation angle matters here, and the cast isn’t pretending otherwise. Bateman has been upfront about the responsibility that comes with turning a beloved book into a movie, and he’s framed the tour as a thank-you to the people who made it possible in the first place.

“We’re all here because of this book and the fan base behind it,”

Beyond Q&As and red carpets, the team plugged directly into fandom culture at Prime Video ’s Obsessed Fest, appearing alongside fellow book-to-screen titles like Off Campus, Maxton Hall and Drawn Together. It’s a small but telling choice: less “consume our movie,” more “we know why you love this story, and we’re playing along.”

If the approach feels familiar, that’s because it echoes a recent proof of concept. During the roll-out for Anyone But You, co-lead Glen Powell boiled the assignment down to two things a rom-com has to sell: “fun and chemistry,” while Sydney Sweeney stayed hands-on with the fan conversation. The Love Hypothesis picks up that baton but pushes the vibe even further — dressing like a classic, joking about the unsexy parts of shooting, and keeping the flirty energy visible between stops on the tour.

The net effect is that the promotion itself feels like part of the movie — and fans are being invited to play along, whether that’s at Book Club, Obsessed Fest or scrolling past another rom-com moment on their For You page.
