Jacob Elordi says working on The Dog Stars meant watching Ridley Scott do a high-wire act only he can pull off. In a video shared by DiscussingFilm, Elordi described the 86-year-old director commanding “around 10” cameras at once, monitoring multiple feeds from his trailer and assembling the sequence in his head in real time — A cam, B cam, C cam, the whole grid.
“You know, I would argue that he's on everyone's list of cinematic heroes.”
Josh Brolin offered his own snapshot of Scott’s process in the same clip. Brolin — who has said he nearly walked away from the film over Scott’s unconventional style — recalled explaining a scene while Scott quietly sketched images. The four shots Scott drew up ended up matching almost exactly what Brolin had just described.
What Scott’s making
The movie itself is a post-apocalyptic thriller about survival after a pandemic, with Scott leaning into intimate character beats as much as the tension and fear. He kept production lean, too: the shoot wrapped in just 34 days, powered by his multi-camera setup that lets him grab performances and coverage in one go.
Scott is partnering with 20th Century Studios and IMAX to put it on the biggest screens first. The plan is a worldwide theatrical rollout — no day-and-date streaming — with the film set to hit theaters on August 28, 2026 .
