Rick and Morty is almost back: Season 9 lands May 24 on Adult Swim, and it’s bringing a surprising shake-up to a core part of the show.

Rick and Morty is finally back in a matter of weeks, and there’s actually good news on the streaming front for once. Season 9 hits cable in late May, and instead of waiting all summer to stream it, you’ll be able to catch it way earlier than originally promised.

When and where to watch

Season 9 premieres May 24 on Adult Swim (on Cartoon Network). The bigger shift is streaming: Adult Swim has moved up the Season 9 streaming date to June 15 on both Hulu and HBO Max. That’s a major change from the previously announced August 31 window, which would have kept the entire season off streaming for months. Now, you only have to wait a few weeks after the cable rollout.

The official tease (yes, it’s delightfully unhinged)

Rick and Morty is back, baby! Season Nine is all certified bangers. No AI slop! Just Grade A organic slop, made by real humans with real human traits like back hair and cysts. Please watch, or we’ll have neglected our families for nothing.

Plot details are under wraps, per usual, but they’re clearly leaning into the handcrafted chaos branding.

Episode titles for Season 9

  • There’s Something About Morty
  • Rick Days, Seven Nights
  • Rick Fu Hustle
  • A Ricker Runs Through It
  • Jer Bud
  • Erickerhead
  • Mortgully: The Last Rickforest
  • Rickuiem Mort a Dream
  • Salute Your Morts
  • Field of Dreams

Adult Swim’s top brass is hyped

I know it’s my job to say that this show just keeps topping itself, but it also has the benefit of being true. It’s kind of scary what this show unit is doing season over season—just pouring an absurd amount of talent and brilliance into these episodes. From the first frame, you’re going to see great high‑concept insanity with some of the best character writing ever done. Again, it’s my job to say that, but it’s also true.

That’s Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, and yeah, studio heads always say this stuff, but he’s doubling down on the mix of big sci-fi ideas and sharp character work.

The road ahead

If you’re worried the end is near, relax: the show is already locked in for twelve seasons total. Translation: there’s more Rick, more Morty, and probably 14 different realities of both still to come.

Short version: watch the premiere May 24 on Adult Swim, then circle June 15 for Hulu and HBO Max if you’re waiting to stream. The wait just got a lot shorter.
