Daenerys' dragons are nothing compared to them!

At the time of the second season of House of the Dragon, there are so many owned and unclaimed dragons. Some have become much more prominent in the new episodes, some have yet to appear on our small screens, and some have sadly perished.

But which fire-breathing creature is the most colossal? We decided to make a list of the sizes of all the dragons in House of the Dragon.

Balerion

Balerion, a black dragon that belonged to the legendary King Aegon I Targaryen and was inherited by Viserys I (Paddy Considine) when he was still a prince, is considered the largest dragon in the history of Westeros and Essos. Of course, he had been dead for about 35 years by the time of the events of HOTD, but even after his demise, the fame of the enormous dragon remained in the minds of Westerosi.

Vhagar

However, the largest of the current living dragons is the one owned by Aemond (Ewan Mitchell). The she-dragon Vhagar is the oldest living one, originally ridden by Queen Visenya Targaryen during Aegon's Conquest. Vhagar later passed into the hands of Laena Velaryon, Aemon's late wife, and upon her death, the dragon was claimed by his nephew and nemesis, Aemond.

Vermithor

In the fifth episode of Season 2, Rhaenyra (Emma D'Arcy) notes that Vermithor, along with Silverwing, are the only unclaimed dragons from Dragonstone that can give Vhagar a head start. And indeed, Vermithor, aka the Bronze Fury, owned by King Jaehaerys I Targaryen, is currently the second largest dragon after Vhagar.

Sheepstealer

Sheepstealer has not yet appeared in the series, but along with Silverwing, he is a wild dragon as large as the much older Vermithor. His dragonrider will be Nettles, Daemon's trusted sidekick and rumored love interest, whom we have yet to see in the show. Sheepstealer is also one of the few dragons to survive the events of Dance of the Dragons.

Silverwing

Close behind is Silverwing, a she-dragon that belonged to Queen Alysanne Targaryen, wife of Jaehaerys I. Vermithor and Silverwing know each other well. Unlike the other dragons, she is the least aggressive and has won the hearts of the Northerners in her time. Her new rider will be Ulf White (Tom Bennett).

Dreamfyre

Next is the silver and blue female dragon Dreamfyre, owned by Helaena Targaryen (Phia Saban). Notably, the eggs that Rhaena (Phoebe Campbell) took to Pentos are believed to belong to Dreamfyre. Three of them, as confirmed by director Geeta Vasant Patel, are Daenerys' future dragons.

Caraxes

Daemon's (Matt Smith) red male dragon, Caraxes, is not the largest, but he is one of the fiercest. Sadly, Daemon and Caraxes are believed to have died in battle with Aemond and his Vhagar.

Meleys

This she-dragon once belonged to Daemon and Viserys' mother, Alyssa Targaryen, but was later claimed by Rhaenys (Eve Best). Unfortunately, both the dragon and its owner perished after Aemond and Vhagar attacked them.

Syrax

The yellow mount that Rhaenyra rides, Syrax, is not an overly large dragon, nor is it overly honed for battle. Unfortunately, according to Fire & Blood, the dragon was killed by the furious mob of King's Landing.

Sunfyre

Sunfyre the Golden is known as the most beautiful dragon in the history of Westeros, so it's not surprising that fans are worried about whether or not he'll survive the events of Episode 5, considering he was bitten by the much larger Meleys.

Lesser Dragons

There are also several smaller dragons that have yet to be introduced. In order of size, they are Tessarion, the future dragon of Daeron Targaryen, Seasmoke, which Addam of Hull will claim, Jacaerys's Vermax and Joffrey's Tyraxes.

A new episode of House of the Dragon Season 2 will be released on July 21, 2024.
