Police Reportedly Probe Katy Perry After She Denies Ruby Rose Assault Allegations
Police in Australia are probing a historical sexual assault allegation involving Katy Perry after Ruby Rose filed a report, Victoria Police confirmed early Wednesday.
I wish this one wasn’t real, but here we are: police in Australia are investigating Katy Perry after Ruby Rose publicly accused the pop star of sexually assaulting her years ago. The claim surfaced in a chaotic burst of social posts tied to Justin Bieber’s Coachella set, which is not the crossover any of us had on the bingo card.
What police are looking into
Victoria Police confirmed to Us Weekly in the early hours of Wednesday, April 15, that detectives from the Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team (SOCIT) are investigating an alleged historical sexual assault in Melbourne. Police say the incident reportedly took place in 2010 at a licensed venue in Melbourne’s central business district. The Herald Sun in Australia first reported the investigation. Authorities told Us the case is ongoing.
How this erupted online
Ruby Rose, 40, made the accusation publicly on Sunday, April 12, after reacting to a social post about Perry’s take on Justin Bieber’s Coachella 2026 set the day before. (Perry had joked on Instagram, referring to Bieber’s stream: 'Thank God he has Premium. I don’t wanna see no ads.')
On Threads, Rose said the alleged assault happened at Spice Market nightclub in Melbourne and described it as something that happened 'almost 2 decades' ago. She later shared more detail about what she says happened and why she stayed quiet.
Rose’s account, in her words and mine
Rose wrote that she was trying to avoid Perry by resting on a friend’s lap when Perry came over, moved her own underwear aside, and rubbed her genitals on Rose’s face. Rose says the shock made her eyes 'snap open' and she immediately threw up on Perry. She also clarified she did not kiss Perry.
According to Rose, she once retold this as a 'funny little drunk story' because she didn’t know how else to process it. She added that Perry later offered to help with her U.S. visa, which was part of why she kept quiet at the time. Rose said she had warned people she felt Perry 'wasn’t a good person' and got piled on for it.
At first, Rose said she wasn’t interested in filing a police report about this incident, noting she hadn’t even filed reports for what she described as multiple rapes by adult men. She also said Perry was welcome to sue her. Then, shortly before the investigation news broke, Rose posted that she had finalized all her reports and, per police request, wouldn’t be commenting further.
Perry’s camp fires back
'the allegations being circulated on social media by Ruby Rose about Katy Perry are not only categorically false, they are dangerous reckless lies.'
'Ms. Rose has a well-documented history of making serious public allegations on social media against various individuals, claims that have repeatedly been denied by those named.'
