No news about McConaughey yet!

Summary

  • Three of the Yellowstone stars are in the process of finalizing a deal to reprise their roles in the new spinoff.
  • Their involvement could hint at what to expect from the Yellowstone finale.
  • The involvement of Matthew McConaughey and Michelle Pfeiffer is in question.

In less than five months, the Paramount Network will premiere the final chapter of Yellowstone. Taylor Sheridan's flagship project has endured no small amount of drama over the past year, from the 2023 Hollywood labor disputes to a behind-the-scenes feud with Kevin Costner, who will sadly not return for the final episodes. Still, fans are eagerly awaiting the release of Season 5, Part 2.

The Sheridanverse continues to expand, however, and Yellowstone will be followed by a new spinoff. Until now, very little was known about the new series, except that it would probably be a direct sequel to the main series and that it would star none other than Matthew McConaughey.

Recently, an intriguing report has surfaced that provides information on a number of actors who will be starring in the spinoff — fans can rejoice, because these are the three original Yellowstone actors!

These Actors Will Return in the Upcoming Yellowstone Spinoff

In late May 2024, Puck News reported that the three actors who starred in Yellowstone resolved a pay dispute with Paramount, concerning their involvement in the upcoming spinoff. These three are ones that all of us, Sheridanverse viewers know and love, as they've been on our small screens since Yellowstone premiered in 2018.

We're talking about Luke Grimes, who played Kayce, Kelly Reilly, who played his sister Beth, and Cole Hauser, everyone's favorite for his role as Beth's husband Rip Wheeler.

What Does This Mean for Yellowstone Season 5B and Beyond?

We have yet to find out in what capacity Kayce, Beth and Rip will appear in the new show. However, the fact that the cast will be reprising their roles may hint at what we can expect from the Season 5 finale and the spinoff itself.

Speaking of Beth, the former is now in a very precarious situation with her and Jamie's mutual attempts to kill each other. However, considering that Wes Bentley is unlikely to appear in the spinoff, it's quite possible that only one person will come out of the conflict alive, and it's clearly not Jamie. But who knows!

At the same time, Kayce seems to be the only one who really wants to prevent a family feud, but he is full of conflicting feelings towards both his relatives and his wife, who is a resident of the Broken Rock Indian Reservation and wants to reclaim the land that now belongs to the Duttons. So the intrigue surrounding his development remains high.

As for Kevin Costner's John Dutton, the actor has officially announced that he will not be returning to the project. So we are left to speculate how exactly Sheridan and team will write John out of the story.

At This Point, What Else Is Known about the Spinoff?

Not many details are known about the upcoming series. Last year there were rumors that the project would be called 2024, like the 1883 and 1923 series. In other words, the spinoff will be the final chapter in the Dutton family's history. However, the tie-in can still change and it is not known in what stage of production it is.

The participation of Matthew McConaughey, as well as Michelle Pfeiffer, who has also been mentioned in various reports, is still in doubt. The former is in talks with Paramount and everything will depend on whether he is satisfied with his deal and the script provided by Taylor Sheridan.

As for Yellowstone, Season 5, Part 2 will premiere on November 10, 2024. The last half of the season will consist of 6 episodes.
