Paramount+ just supercharged its May lineup with dozens of arrivals, headlined by the full five-season run of a bona fide TV all-timer now streaming alongside the Battlestar Galactica saga and films like Flags of Our Fathers.

Paramount+ just did the obvious smart thing: it dropped all five seasons of one of the best TV dramas ever. If you needed a sign to start a rewatch (or finally see what all the fuss was about), this is it.

'Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose.'

As of May 1, every episode of Friday Night Lights is streaming on Paramount+. That's the full 76-episode run, originally on NBC, now in one place alongside a fresh batch of May arrivals that also includes the Battlestar Galactica franchise and films like Flags of Our Fathers and Nacho Libre.

Why Friday Night Lights still hits like a championship game

The show centers on Coach Eric Taylor, his family, and the Dillon Panthers (and beyond), set in a fictional Texas town that lives and breathes high school football. But it's not just about the plays on Friday; it's about everything in between. The series treats small choices like they matter (because they do), lets its characters mess up, learn, and move forward, and weaves in day-to-day realities like racism, money problems, and class divides without grandstanding.

It helps that the cast is stacked: Connie Britton, Kyle Chandler, and Taylor Kitsch lead a lineup that sells the show's grounded vibe. Coach and Tami Taylor remain the gold standard of TV marriages, full stop. Critics and fans were on the same page the whole time too — across its five seasons, the show averaged around a 95% critics score and a 93% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and it picked up a healthy pile of awards along the way.

For the purists: yes, it's based on H.G. Bissinger's 1990 non-fiction book, 'Friday Night Lights: A Town, a Team, and a Dream.' The series keeps the spirit and builds a lived-in world around it that still feels startlingly real.

The reboot you've heard whispers about

More than a decade after the finale, a new Friday Night Lights is in the works at Peacock, with original heavy hitters Jason Katims, Peter Berg, and Brian Grazer involved. This time it follows a different Texas high school program led by a new coach, with the story kicking off in the aftermath of a hurricane. Translation: same DNA, new team.

Paramount+ in May: what else just landed (and what's next)

  • Friday Night Lights: all 5 seasons (now streaming as of May 1)
  • Battlestar Galactica: The Miniseries (2 episodes), plus all 4 seasons of the series (now streaming)
  • Caprica: the first and only season (now streaming)
  • Movies newly in the mix include Flags of Our Fathers and Nacho Libre
  • Coming up: the new Yellowstone spinoff Dutton Ranch premieres May 15
  • Also this month: new episodes of Criminal Minds: Evolution, and season finales for The Neighborhood, NCIS, FBI, and Ghosts

Bottom line: if you're on Paramount+ and you haven't cued up Dillon, Texas yet, you&aposre leaving easy wins on the table.
