Outer Banks Season 4: Filming Complete, Set for Late 2024 Netflix Premiere
The Pogues are back for another adventure!
Summary
- The filming of Outer Banks Season 4 lasted almost a year and is finally finished.
- However, the new season will not be released until the end of 2024.
- The upcoming events will focus on Blackbeard's treasure hunt.
Netflix's Outer Banks has established itself as one of the best young adult shows, thanks to a fresh approach to the treasure-hunting formula. Instead of the well-worn trope of formidable adventurers like Indiana Jones or Lara Croft, we got ordinary young people struggling to survive in poverty and, as a bonus, find some treasures.
Despite mixed reviews from critics, the third season was well received by audiences, who are now eagerly awaiting Season 4, which was announced back in February 2023. However, by the time filming began, the Hollywood labor disputes broke out, putting further production on hold indefinitely. Fortunately, filming resumed this year and has already been completed!
Let's find out what stage of production Outer Banks is at, when it might be released, and what we can expect from the upcoming events of the fourth season.
Season 4 Took a Full Year to Film
Netflix gave the green light to produce a fourth season about a week before the release of Season 3 on February 23, 2023. Filming began in June of the same year but lasted only a month before being suspended. The reason, of course, was the start of the SAG-AFTRA strike on July 14, 2023.
Fortunately, filming resumed as soon as the strike ended in November 2023 and was scheduled to wrap on May 20, 2024. However, as reality shows, the deadline was one month overdue, as the cast members did not report completion until June 13.
Filming Has Finally Been Completed
As we mentioned, the first to report the end of filming were core cast members Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline, Jonathan Daviss, Carlacia Grant, and Madison Bailey, each of whom posted stories on their Instagram accounts.
However, a more comprehensive announcement was made by Deputy Shoupe, who plays the role of Cullen Moss in the series. He posted photos from the set with the following words:
'And that's a wrap on what added up to over a year of shooting the fourth season one of the most fun shows on television. This year was marked by not only the usual incredible cast and coolest, most fun and talented crew, but also a parade of some of my dearest friends lending their immense talent in front of and behind the lens. Thanks for the ride, @obx! This one's gonna be a doozie!!!'

When Will the New Season Be Released?
Unfortunately, no release date has been announced yet. However, considering that filming has just finished, we're in for a long post-production period. Judging from previous seasons, this phase should last about four or five months, which means that the release of Outer Banks Season 4 should not be expected before November-December 2024.
However, considering that Outer Banks is a very popular series and that Netflix has been actively pursuing a policy of splitting seasons of its flagship series into two parts in recent years, it is likely that Season 4 will also be split into two parts, with the first being released in late 2024 and the second in early 2025 or even later.
What to Expect from the Upcoming Outer Banks Events?
The season three finale wrapped up almost all of the storylines. The gold and the legendary El Dorado were finally found, as was John B.'s father, and all the kids began to pursue their career and life dreams. But the story does not end there, and this time the Pogues will be searching for another hidden treasure, one that once belonged to the famous pirate Edward Teach, also known as Blackbeard.
