Beau Maxwell is stealing the show in Off Campus season 1—fans say they started crying the moment he appeared, and TikTok is awash with edits set to Taylor Swift’s loml after the May 2026 release.

Beau Maxwell barely shows up in Off Campus season 1 and somehow he is already the guy wrecking everybody. You meet him, he smiles twice, and boom — the internet is sobbing.

Heads up: spoilers for Off Campus below.

Quick refresher: what is Off Campus?

Prime Video ’s Off Campus adapts Elle Kennedy’s wildly popular Briar University hockey romances. Season 1, which dropped in May 2026, sticks to the first novel, The Deal — the one where captain Garrett Graham and Hannah Wells go from academic bargaining to actual feelings. Kennedy’s original run follows four teammates pairing off across four books, and she later expanded the universe with two more companion lines about the next wave of campus chaos.

  • The Deal: Garrett Graham and Hannah Wells
  • The Mistake: John Logan and Grace Ivers
  • The Score: Dean Heyward-Di Laurentis and Allie Hayes
  • The Goal: John Tucker and Sabrina James

There are also two follow-up series from Kennedy — Briar U and Campus Diaries — that jump to the next generation of college romances.

So, who is Beau Maxwell on the show?

In the series, Beau (played by Khobe Clarke) is tight with hockey guys Garrett (Belmont Cameli) and Dean (Stephen Kalyn). He plays football at Briar, floats in and out of the group hangouts, and generally vibes like the affable friend you want around at 2 a.m. diner runs.

In the books, he’s basically that same guy: Briar football standout, honorary member of the hockey orbit, and a friend to Sabrina — who, for context, is John Tucker’s eventual love interest in book 4, The Goal. Important detail from the novels: Beau dies in Tucker and Sabrina’s story after a car crash. The show has not reached that plotline yet, and Sabrina hasn’t been cast on the series so far.

Why is the fandom already crying over him?

This is one of those cases where the character’s book fate hangs over every scene like a neon sign. As soon as season 1 hit, viewers were posting edits of Clarke’s Beau to Taylor Swift’s tear-jerker 'loml' on TikTok (yes, really), and on X they were half-joking, half-spiraling about how many Beau moments the season squeezes in.

'Please Beau Maxwell, don’t get in that f***ng car and keep your neck safe.'

That’s the general vibe: he isn’t even gone in the show yet, and people are already mourning, convinced the series is laying emotional groundwork so the inevitable will hurt more than it did on the page.

What changed from the books?

Off Campus makes a few strategic tweaks, and one of them is giving Beau a little more oxygen. Elle Kennedy has said season 1 only offers a taste of the character, but Khobe Clarke pops whenever he’s on screen, often landing the lighter, goofier beats. Her read on it is pretty blunt: viewers are going to fall hard for this guy and, when the story gets to that part, they’re going to be crushed.

Will Beau be back in season 2?

Prime Video renewed Off Campus for a second season months before season 1 even premiered. The streamer hasn’t announced which couple will headline next, and they haven’t confirmed whether Beau returns. Cameras roll in June 2026, so we’ll know more soon.

In the meantime, Off Campus season 1 is streaming now on Prime Video. If you’re Beau-attached already, maybe pace yourself.
