No big role in future seasons, but an AKOTSK actor still vows to return

Asked about another spin in Ser Lyonel’s saddle, Daniel Ings told Radio Times he’s game — but the show’s roadmap is the sticking point. The actor said A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is tracking closely to George R.R. Martin’s Dunk and Egg stories, and Lyonel doesn’t figure into the published tales beyond what viewers have seen so far.

“Oh, man, I’d love to! Unfortunately, he’s not in any more of the stories that George R.R. Martin has written so far, and our showrunner, Ira Parker, is sticking closely to those.”

Ings did float one lore-friendly path back: a legendary clash that sits further down the Westerosi timeline. He joked he might be a much older knight by the time the series ever gets there.

“There is a famous duel in the future [ according to Game of Thrones lore]. Maybe I’ll be 60 by that time!”

And yes, if the call comes, he’s ready to bring the swagger — and the jewelry — right back.

“Whatever happens, I’d love to put in Lyonel’s little dangly earring again because he’s such a fun character.”

Ser Lyonel Baratheon made a loud impression in a short stay, all charm, bravado and that unmistakable earring. His story stepped out of Dunk and Egg’s path by the end of Season 1, which is why his return would likely depend on how far the adaptation ultimately ranges into Westerosi history.

Season 2 heads to The Sworn Sword

Next up for the show: Season 2 adapts Martin’s second Dunk and Egg novella, The Sworn Sword, sending Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire Egg into a feud between a landed knight and a rival lord. Filming has been underway in 2026 , with Peter Claffey back as Dunk and Dexter Sol Ansell returning as Egg.

HBO says Season 2 will premiere in 2027 , with an exact date still to come.
