Nicholas Sparks' Most Heart-Wrenching Drama After The Notebook Exits Netflix This September
You better prepare a bag of tissues.
If you've seen one Nicholas Sparks movie, you've seen them all. North Carolina, summer romance, boat rides, dramatic breakups, suicide notes, and, of course, kissing in the rain.
You can roll your eyes and criticize Sparks' melodramatic adaptations, but let's face it – we all need a dose of these movies sometimes to weep over the characters' tragic fates.
Sparks' most famous movie is, of course, The Notebook. After watching all the adaptations of the author's books, it is easy to see that Nick Cassavetes' film is not only a gem among the adaptations of the Sparks' novels, but also a real treasure in the chest of Hollywood melodramas.
But there is another movie that, although it does not reach the cult status of The Notebook, consistently ranks second and comes close to the glory of the Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams film – A Walk to Remember.
What is A Walk to Remember About?
Landon Carter is a cool guy who thinks he is the king of the school. Jamie Sullivan is a modest, quiet girl, the daughter of a local preacher.
Their destinies should not have crossed, but they did when Landon was sent to reform school after another offense, where he met his unexpected love. Both he and she refuse to believe that this could have happened, but it seems that their love will be stronger than what either is used to in life.
A Walk to Remember Was One of the Main Hits of the 90s
The love story of religious schoolgirl Jamie and bad guy Landon became a hit of the '90s: the movie was re-watched and quoted, Mandy Moore's songs from the soundtrack topped the charts, and tears flowed for hours after viewing.
A Walk to Remember is actually a cult movie about love and acceptance. A standard teen romance turns into a heartbreaking reflection on devotion, sacrifice, death and destiny.
Critics panned the film, but the viewers around the world helped it gross $47.5 million against a production budget of $11.8 million. The MTV Movie and Teen Choice Awards noted the acting of up-and-coming Mandy Moore and the chemistry between her and Shane West.
What makes the movie even more fascinating is that in 2017, when the cast of the film was interviewed to celebrate the 15th anniversary of A Walk to Remember, Mandy Moore admitted that she was madly in love with Shane West.
A Walk to Remember is Leaving Netflix Soon
If you haven't seen A Walk to Remember yet, you'd better hurry – it's leaving Netflix on September 25.
