Michael Bay’s ‘Transformers’ movie rumor checked: Chris Hemsworth replacing Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime
Reports link Chris Hemsworth to Optimus Prime in Michael Bay’s upcoming Transformers movie — but what’s actually going on isn’t the obvious answer.
The viral post claiming Chris Hemsworth is stepping in as Optimus Prime for a new Michael Bay Transformers movie came from an unverified parody X account, not the studio. Hemsworth’s actual connection to the Autobot leader is the 2024 animated origin story Transformers One, where he voices a young Optimus — known on Cybertron as Orion Pax — and he’s said more than once he didn’t try to imitate the signature rumble of Peter Cullen.
Cullen, who defined Prime’s voice since the 1980s, died on August 26, 2026 , at 85. His final turn as the character was the short film Optimus Prime: Awakening. As for the next live-action installment, an eighth Transformers movie is in development — with Steven Spielberg returning and Michael Bay in early talks, per the report — but voice casting hasn’t been announced, and Hemsworth’s name isn’t attached.
Hemsworth has not been cast as Optimus Prime in any live-action Transformers film.
- Hemsworth’s only Optimus to date: Transformers One (2024), voicing a young Orion Pax.
- The rumor originated from the parody X account @ChaosCrave_.
- Peter Cullen died Aug. 26, 2026, after decades as Prime’s voice; his last appearance was Optimus Prime: Awakening.
- The eighth live-action Transformers is in development; no voice cast has been revealed.
- Hemsworth has said he didn’t try to copy Cullen’s iconic delivery for the animated film.

While the Prime chatter burned out, Hemsworth had something real to celebrate: his daughter’s win on a bull. India Rose Hemsworth, 14, entered a youth bull-riding event as the only girl in the field and took first place. Hemsworth shared two clips on X — the first shows her holding on for the required eight seconds as a dirt-arena crowd looks on.
A second video, filmed before her ride, catches some father–daughter banter: Hemsworth asks if she can last seven seconds; she immediately corrects him to eight, and he jokes she clearly knows more than he does. For India, it tracks — dirt bike jumps over a big hill are already part of her hobby list.
On the work front, Hemsworth next suits up as Thor in Avengers: Doomsday, set for December 18, 2026.
