The new season of Virgin River has been filmed!

Summary

  • Virgin River was supposed to wrap filming at the end of May, and now Martin Henderson has released an update on the production status.
  • Henderson will also direct the new season episodes.
  • Season 6 is not expected until early 2025.

The laid-back vibe that pervades the titular Northern California town makes Netflix's Virgin River one of the streaming service's most popular shows, so expectations for the upcoming season are incredibly high.

After all, it's been more than half a year since the Christmas specials wrapped up the turmoil of Season 5 on a soothing yet poignant note. And now we're left to take solace in the intriguing updates that members of the cast and production team post on social media.

Unfortunately, we'll have to wait a while, but the agonizing anticipation will certainly be worth it, because according to Martin Henderson, the upcoming events will be 'huge'. Moreover, according to the actor's update, the new season of Virgin River has already been filmed and is probably already in post-production.

Let's see what Henderson revealed and why the latest update is so exciting.

Martin Henderson Has Had an Update on Season 6 Filming

The announcement of Season 6 was made by Netflix four months before the release of Season 5, in May 2023. In turn, the release was expected to take place in 2024, presumably in the fall, like most of the previous seasons. Thus, the active production phase was supposed to kick off in the summer of 2023. However, as we know, the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes suddenly hit, freezing almost the entire film and television industry. As a result, principal photography has been postponed indefinitely.

However, on February 22, 2024, it was revealed that shooting had commenced when the official Virgin River Instagram account posted a photo of Martin Henderson and Alexandra Breckenridge holding a clapping board.

On May 30, 2024, Henderson, who plays the role of Jack Sheridan, published a highly curious post on his personal Instagram account. In it, the actor is sitting in front of a mirror, getting his makeup ready before filming the remaining moments of Virgin River Season 6. What's more, not only was filming coming to an end at the time, but Henderson also shared his own preview of the season, expressing his hope that viewers would enjoy it immensely.

'Been a huge season with a lot of what I hope makes you fans very happy,' Henderson wrote in the caption.

Another interesting post appeared on Henderson's Instagram. According to it, he will be appearing as more than just Jack Sheridan in the upcoming season.

The season will mark his directorial debut! It's not known yet if it will be a single episode or multiple episodes, but it's a big deal not only for fans of the show, but also for Henderson himself. Check out the announcement below:

When Can We Expect a New Season of Virgin River?

Usually, it takes approximately 7 to 10 months to complete production of Virgin River: Season 4 was released about eight months after filming, and Season 5 was released ten months after that.

Filming of Virgin River Season 6 was supposed to be finished sometime in late May, and if Henderson is to be believed, the production team is on schedule. Based on all this, we can assume that the release on Netflix won't happen until January 2025, although much more realistic predictions say Q2 or Q3 2025 at the earliest.

We should also expect a possible Season 7 announcement, as they usually do before the premiere of a new season. Also, a spin-off about Mel's parents is already in production!
