Exciting adventures are not only possible in the films. We have chosen five recent animated action movies and shows that will appeal not only to children, but also to adults who prefer spectacular stories.
1. Mars Express, 2023
The action takes place in the 23rd century. Detective Aline carries out a private mission – she catches the cybercriminal Roberta, after which she escorts her to Mars on an express train. Something strange happens – the warrant for Roberta's arrest disappears from all databases.
Together with her robot partner Carlos, Aline begins the next task: they have to find the missing cybernetics student Jun Chow. To unravel the mystery, the two embark on an investigation and are confronted with much more global problems.
Jérémie Périn's work is full of references to sci-fi classics and pop culture in general, especially Blade Runner.
2. The Boy and the Beast, 2015
Ren loses his parents in Tokyo and ends up in a parallel world inhabited by anthropomorphic creatures. His mentor there is the great warrior Kumatetsu, who teaches the boy martial arts and gives him a new name – Kyuta. But in the world of demons, a serious struggle for power breaks out, in which the main character has a special role.
The director of the animated film was Mamoru Hosoda, who made the popular anime The Girl Who Leapt Through Time.
3. Lastman, 2016-...
A minimalist French animated series in the spirit of the 1980s, the story of amateur boxer Richard Aldana, who fights ruthless monsters in the metropolis of an alternate universe – Paxtown. A series of incredible adventures begins when Richard's friend is kidnapped by the sinister organization Order of the Lion.
The money for the creation of Lastman was raised through crowdfunding. The animated series is a prequel to the original comic book of the same name. The first season aired on France 4 and became a hit, attracting an impressive fan base.
4. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, 2018
Brooklyn schoolboy Miles Morales is bitten by a genetically engineered spider, giving him unusual abilities. At the same time, criminal genius Wilson Fisk creates a machine that opens portals to parallel worlds.
Soon Miles is trying out the role of Spider-Man and meets similar heroes from other dimensions: the depressed Peter Parker, the stunning beauty Spider-Woman, the grumpy Spider-Man Noir from a colorless world, the anime Peni Parker and Spider-Ham. They must unite to save the entire multiverse.
5. Spies in Disguise, 2019
The main characters are a confident spy, Lance, and a young scientist, Walter, who work together for a secret organization. One day, Lance is accused of treason and turns to Walter for help. Walter creates a device that accidentally turns Lance into a pigeon. Now the two are forced to work together to deal with a new threat.
Spies in Disguise is a funny spoof of Bond movies and spy thrillers, animated by Blue Sky Studios, the same team that brought us Ice Age.
