Kevin Feige got Sebastian Stan’s ‘Sicario-esque’ Winter Soldier pitch
Sebastian Stan says he personally pitched Kevin Feige a bold new Winter Soldier story — and the angle he floated might surprise you.
When Sebastian Stan sat down with New York Magazine, he admitted he’d already taken his best swing at getting Bucky Barnes his own movie: a half-joking pitch to Marvel boss Kevin Feige for a grounded, Denis Villeneuve –style thriller. Stan said Feige humored him — and even called the idea “cool.”
“It ’s about a guy who thinks he recognizes someone from his past that had something to do with when, you know, he was brainwashed, and he gets obsessed with this person. He goes on a whole journey to try to figure out who this person is. It’s a thriller.”
The tone Stan has in mind nods to Denis Villeneuve and the icy tension of Sicario , with Bucky tracking a ghost from his Winter Soldier days. It’s the kind of one-man, boots-on-the-ground story the character has rarely gotten in the MCU, despite being a pillar of the Captain America films and beyond.
For now, there’s no sign Marvel is developing a standalone Winter Soldier movie. Stan is expected to keep suiting up as Bucky in upcoming MCU projects, including the next Avengers team-up, though Marvel keeps specifics under wraps.
About those Batman rumors
Separate from Marvel, speculation has swirled around Stan and The Batman Part II. After a French interview with Le Journal du Dimanche briefly went viral suggesting he’d play Harvey Dent, the outlet corrected the piece, saying Stan had been misquoted. The correction shut down that specific rumor, but his exact involvement — if any — remains unannounced.
Bottom line: Stan’s Bucky thriller is just an idea he floated — not a greenlit movie — and Marvel hasn’t announced a solo Winter Soldier project.
