Kathleen Kennedy Stands by Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny
Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy says she has no regrets about Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, highlighting Harrison Ford’s passion for the role. She also notes there are no current plans for another Indiana Jones film.
Outgoing Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy is standing firm on her decision to bring Indiana Jones back for one more adventure, even as the latest film, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, fell short of box office expectations. Despite the movie earning less than $400 million worldwide, Kennedy remains confident in the choice to let Harrison Ford reprise his iconic role.
In a recent interview, Kennedy reflected on the film’s reception and Ford’s commitment to the character.
“I have no regrets about that because Harrison [Ford] wanted to do that more than anything. He did not want Indy to end with the fourth movie. He wanted a chance at another, and we did that for him. I think that was the right thing to do.”
Indy’s Future Remains Uncertain
When asked about what lies ahead for the legendary archaeologist, Kennedy was careful not to make any promises. She pointed to the enduring appeal of the franchise, saying,
“I don’t think Indy will ever be done, but I don’t think anybody is interested right now in exploring it. But these are timeless movies, and Indy will never be done.”
She also hinted that the door isn’t completely closed, adding,
“You never know. But we are all still here, Steven [Spielberg] and Frank [Marshall] and I, and Harrison and George [Lucas]. So we get to say whether there’s going to be any more, or not.”
A Legacy That Endures
Since his first appearance in Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones has become a fixture in pop culture. The original trilogy, including Temple of Doom and The Last Crusade, cemented the character’s place in movie history. However, the 2008 installment, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, is often seen as a misstep for the series.
Indiana Jones has also found success beyond the big screen. The character starred in the 1990s TV series The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles and, more recently, in the video game Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, keeping the spirit of adventure alive for new generations.
