From rainbow bows to unapologetic reinvention, JoJo Siwa tells Us Weekly that growing up under the spotlight has turbocharged her evolution—and her boldest era is just beginning.

JoJo Siwa just turned her Celebrity Big Brother UK meet-cute into a full-on production number, and yes, it is exactly as extra as it sounds. One year after she walked into that house and locked eyes with British TV personality Chris Hughes, she dropped a surprise video performance called 'Serendipity' to mark the day they met. The gossip, the timeline, the labels, the golf (seriously) — here is where all of it lands now.

How we got here

On April 7, 2025, 21-year-old JoJo entered the Celebrity Big Brother UK house and met Chris Hughes, who is 11 years older. Complication: she was still dating Kath Ebbs at the time. What followed on camera was… not subtle. They laughed, cried, cuddled, whispered, even swapped rings in the house. Fast-forward to now and JoJo is wearing Chris' ring on a chain during interviews. At the time, she swore it was just friendship. Looking back, she admits the chemistry was obvious — to everyone but her, apparently.

'Serendipity' — the surprise within the surprise

The new performance piece is called 'Serendipity' because the word literally came up while they were watching Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? early on, neither of them knew what it meant, and a fan messaged that it basically described their whole situation. So JoJo leaned in.

This was supposed to be a quick batch of vertical clips for social. Instead, she built what she calls a 'little cabaret performance' that exploded into the biggest swing she has ever taken: over the course of one week and two days, she mounted a surprise stage spectacle for Chris with 86 dancers and four different types of props. There is a cane section she swears is the hardest choreography she has ever created. She does it all in a pink bow, fuzzy sweater, and skirt — very deliberate, very her — and yes, it is meant to show how far she has come since Dance Moms.

The logistics were wild. To keep the secret, she told him she was rehearsing a video for a different song and that her parents were dragging them to a theater show. He and his best friend had no clue. For balance: Chris got his surprises in too — he popped up in Mexico right before her birthday and showed up at one of her Birmingham tour stops.

The 'official' day vs the 'we met' day

Worth clarifying because the dates are messy: the video dropped on April 7, the anniversary of the day they met on Big Brother. Their actual relationship anniversary is May 27. That morning, she did a UK talk show and said she did not have a boyfriend because they had never made it official. That night, at her hotel, Chris basically said, so, why am I not your boyfriend? She told him he had to ask so they would have a date to celebrate and eventually tell their kids about. He asked. Done. By month three or four, he was fully on board with making the day a thing.

Where JoJo's head is at now

She is in a very not-trying-to-please-everyone era. In her words, she has run out of Fs to give and stopped shaping herself for a specific audience. Big Brother deserves some credit for that reset; being stuck in that house let her relax, be herself, and, ironically, made people like her more again. Also, it gave her the guy — hard to complain about that.

'I am not straight. If I had to pick a label just to shut people up, I am probably pansexual. Being with a man now does not erase my past.'

On labels, backlash, and why she is still talking about it

JoJo has always overshared by design — she came out at 17 after falling for her best friend (a girl), later dated someone non-binary, and now she is in love with a man. The internet reaction when she went public with Chris was loud and not always kind. She calls it predictable and is not backing off: she is still part of the LGBTQIA community, still an advocate, and if you need a word, she leans pansexual. Being in a straight-presenting relationship does not rewrite her history.

Long-distance math is not romantic, it is scheduling

They live eight time zones apart, which leaves about a six-hour overlap when both are awake. Mornings for her are mid-day for him; nights for him are mid-day for her. It is a beast, her word, but worth it for them. They have talked about closing the gap someday; most of those conversations stay offline. She estimates 90 percent of their relationship is private, and they have never laid down explicit rules — they just share what feels natural.

The family piece

Chris gets along extremely well with her parents. He and JoJo's dad, Tom, are basically best buds. He calls her mom Jessalynn 'Jessica' for reasons no one can trace, and it stuck. Mom is famously protective, but she has never had to give him the scary talk.

Skirts, golf, and the 'Joelle' era

JoJo says she is in her 'Joelle' phase — softer pinks, fuzzy textures, skirts, necklaces, and, yes, bows again. The skirt thing surprised even her; she swears golf is to blame. Chris and her dad got her into it, and she is apparently decent for someone who has only played 11 rounds. She admits to taking redos. Relatable.

The Love Island thing

She still has not watched Love Island because Chris asked her not to. She is not making a federal case out of it; if a boundary is reasonable, she is not going to cross it.

What she is working on next

April and May are swallowed by two TV shoots. She cannot say what they are yet (she is very proud of one in particular and calls it a first-of-its-kind flex), but they are both happening back-to-back. May also marks a decade of 'Boomerang', which she is celebrating with a new ballad version, a fresh recording, and the original a cappella track of her kid voice. After that comes the JoJo cruise with a big live set. She just bought a house and is mid-renovation, so the plan after June is to actually sit in it for a minute. Until then, it is sprint-to-June mode.
