Storage Wars: Back to the Locker paid a poignant on-air farewell to fan favorite Darrell Sheets, closing Saturday’s episode with an In Memoriam tribute just days after his sudden death.

Storage Wars just said goodbye to one of its own. The newest Back to the Locker episode closed with a simple, gut-punch tribute to Darrell Sheets, only days after news broke that he had died. If you watched the show back in the early years, you know him as The Gambler — the guy who could turn a dusty locker into a jackpot (or a very expensive pile of nothing) with a single bid.

The on-air tribute

Saturday, April 25, the A+E docuseries ended with a title card that read "In Memoriam Darrell Sheets," alongside his birth and death dates. No narration, no montage — just a quiet moment, which honestly felt right.

What happened

  • Wednesday, April 22: Us Weekly confirmed that Darrell Sheets died by apparent suicide. He was 67.
  • According to the Lake Havasu City Police Department in Arizona, officers were dispatched at about 0200 hours on April 22 to a residence in the 1500 block of Chandler Drive for a reported deceased individual. They found a man with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The department’s Criminal Investigations Unit responded and took over the case.
  • Friday, April 24: Two of his Storage Wars colleagues spoke out about online harassment tied to the show’s fandom, including allegations that someone had targeted Darrell in the months leading up to his death.
  • Saturday, April 25: The Back to the Locker episode aired with the memorial card.

Darrell, The Gambler

Sheets was one of the core personalities who helped turn Storage Wars into a 2010s cable staple. He appeared on the franchise from 2010 through 2023, swaggering into auctions and gambling on unseen contents in abandoned storage units — the whole hook of the series. A&E also shared condolences this week, noting how beloved he was within the Storage Wars family.

He is survived by his two children.

His own words on mental health

Years before this, Darrell was open about struggling with depression. Back in June 2018, he wrote on Instagram:

"Depression is the Devil's way of attacking us. It knows no mercy, it takes our smiles it comes and goes, it ruins our relationships, it takes away our happiness, it leads to suicide in some cases, it destroys all thoughts of positivity, it is a 24/7 battle and allows no rest for the suffering."

The bullying allegations

In the weeks before his death, Sheets had said he was being cyberbullied. On Friday, April 24, his on-screen rival Rene Nezhoda told Us that someone had allegedly been impersonating Darrell across phone calls, messages, emails, and websites — and even threatened him with "I'm gonna ruin you." Nezhoda pointed to Darrell’s final Facebook posts and said he had pulled back from social media.

Other cast members say they have dealt with harassment online over the years too. Dave Hester — who has been at this for 16, 17 years — said people will always say rude things on the internet, and he tries not to give it any oxygen.

Remembering what he brought to the show

Beyond the headlines, Sheets brought big swings, big wins, and the occasional spectacular miss — the kind of TV that made Storage Wars appointment viewing for more than a decade. Seeing the series quietly honor him at the end of the episode was a reminder of how much personality he gave the format.
