A Hollywood name just hit pause — he’s stepping away indefinitely, and you’ll want to know who.

In a candid set of posts on Threads, David Krumholtz said the thing that had scared him for years—walking away—finally happened when he “sent the definitive email.” The messages were later deleted, but according to Deadline, he described the decision as less about a grand plan and more about finally dropping a weight he’d carried too long.

“The fear was that I’d go broke and not be able to handle being out of the game. But I sent the definitive email,” he wrote. “I just removed a humongous burden, one that I truly didn’t fathom the weight of until it was gone. Frustrated, fed up, fried.”

Fellow actor Garret Dillahunt responded with support—calling the news sad but understandable—and Krumholtz replied that it’s not a total exit so much as a reset, per Deadline. He said he’s looking to redefine his terms, find a new and more rewarding passion, and move away from the old “me, my product, and I” mindset. He added there’s no clear next step yet and he wants to be of service going forward.

Krumholtz has been a steady presence across film and TV for three decades, from the ’90s through recent years. He broke out in teen comedies and became a network-TV staple with Numb3rs, then popped up in everything from The Santa Clause films to Oppenheimer.

Back to 10 Things

One project from early in his career is suddenly back in the spotlight: the 1999 high-school classic 10 Things I Hate About You, where Krumholtz shared scenes with Heath Ledger and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, is getting a Broadway musical makeover. The creative team brings together film, pop, and theater names with fresh material built around the Stratford sisters, high-school cliques, and messy first crushes.
