A director told Adria Arjona to 'be less Latina,' she says
Adria Arjona says a director sent her an offensive note — and she’s breaking down what, exactly, made it cross the line.
On a recent visit to Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, Adria Arjona was asked about the worst “note” she’s ever gotten on set. She didn’t hesitate: a director once told her, “less of an accent” and to be “less domesticated.”
“Do that with less of an accent and less domesticated,” she recalled.
Arjona didn’t name the filmmaker, but she made clear how the direction landed with her.
“He was like less accent, less domestication, being domesticated. So I was like great be less Latina is what you're talking awesome cool,” she said.
She added that she didn’t push back in the moment, but after that exchange she stopped putting much stock in that director’s notes.

This isn’t the first time Arjona has talked candidly about behavior on sets. On John Feitelberg’s Scene Stealers podcast, she took aim at performers who hide behind “method” to be difficult to work with.
“Can we cancel method acting? Because there are a lot of assholes in there,” she said.
DCU mystery role
Arjona has also been linked to James Gunn ’s next Superman film, reportedly titled Man of Tomorrow. On Happy Sad Confused, she kept her role under wraps even as Horowitz tried to guess which DC character she might be playing.
When Horowitz floated Maxima, Arjona coyly said she could be. He then wagered she’s actually Wonder Woman and put money on it. Arjona suggested a counter bet on Maxima.
- Josh Horowitz bet $500 that Arjona is playing Wonder Woman.
- If she turns out to be Maxima instead, Horowitz loses and pays $500.
