Inde Navarrette casting rumor over ‘Heat 2’ and ‘X-Men’ clarified
Obsession stirred up Heat 2 casting buzz, but the actor suddenly atop those wishlists wasn’t actually being talked up for that sequel.
Rumors that Inde Navarrette turned down a part in Heat 2 to jump into Marvel were put to bed this week after the film ’s team said there was never an offer on the table. According to TheWrap, the actress had a single meeting with director Michael Mann that didn’t progress further — no screen test, no deal, no role to reject.
“It ’s simply untrue,” Shane Salerno, executive producer of Heat 2, told TheWrap.
The internet chatter started with whispers about that one Mann meeting and snowballed into a “she passed on the sequel for Marvel” narrative. Salerno’s clarification snaps the timeline back to reality: there was curiosity, then nothing, long before Navarrette’s Marvel casting became official.
After Obsession, a dry spell
Navarrette’s recent momentum traces to Obsession, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2025 ahead of a 2026 theatrical run. But the breakout didn’t immediately open doors. She told Complex that the months that followed were surprisingly quiet, and she picked up side gigs — including streaming video games on a self-built PC and dog-walking — while she kept auditioning.
“I didn’t work for a year and a half after Obsession,” she said. “I was auditioning, I was doing everything, just nothing was sticking. I wanted to pay rent and I wanted to do things.”
As she put it elsewhere, she took on “everything i could” while waiting for the right role to land.
What’s confirmed for X-Men
That landed in August 2026 at Disney ’s D23, where Marvel announced Navarrette will play Rogue in its new X-Men reboot after weeks of speculation that initially had her pegged for Mystique. Two other major roles were confirmed alongside her:
- Sadie Sink — Jean Grey
- Kit Connor — Cyclops
The film is directed by Jake Schreier and is planned for a 2028 release.
Outside the mutant universe, Navarrette also has a starring role in Invertigo. As for Heat 2, it remains in development — just not with a part that she ever had to turn down. The X-Men reboot is currently slated for 2028.
