Jackman seems to be a DC fan.

Summary

  • Deadpool & Wolverine promises to be a favorite Marvel flick for many viewers.
  • However, its star, Hugh Jackman, does not include the movie in his personal top.
  • In fact, he prefers DC projects.

The anticipation for Deadpool & Wolverine is so palpable that we will be utterly surprised if the new and only Marvel flick of 2024 is not a favorite for millions of viewers worldwide. After all, it has all the ingredients to be the next box office hit, if not an Endgame, then a new No Way Home.

See for yourself: the multiverse angle – check, Deadpool's unparalleled humor – check, the exciting bromance years in the making – check, the proper introduction of the X-Men to the MCU – check, Hugh Jackman's undying frown – check.

Jackman has been playing Wolverine for 24 years now (the character even died in 20th Century Fox's Logan), but it seems that not one of his own superhero movies makes the actor's personal top list.

In fact, ironically, he seems to be a DC fan.

Hugh Jackman's Favorite Superhero Film

In an interview with Variety, Hugh Jackman named not one, but two movies based on DC Comics as his favorites. Like many boys growing up in the '70s, the future Marvel star was deeply impressed by the 1978 Superman movie starring Christopher Reeve.

'My favorite superhero movie. Growing up, the first Superman. That was a game changer. Dick Donner movie, Christoher Reeve,' the actor said.

However, his ultimate superhero choice is one of Christopher Nolan's classics starring Christian Bale.

'I'm thinking one of the Nolan Batmans. I'm gonna go with The Dark Knight,' Jackman revealed.

Well, it's not entirely a surprise, considering Jackman had the chance to work with both Nolan and Bale on the set of 2006's The Prestige, and always praised both for their professional and personal qualities. Besides, who could ignore the greatest supervillain of all time, Heath Ledger's Joker?

Will Hugh Jackman be done with Wolverine after Deadpool 3?

Is there any chance that Jackman will star in another superhero movie that will be as good as The Dark Night for him personally?

For example, will there be a Deadpool & Wolverine sequel or will the upcoming movie be a big farewell for both superheroes? Well, as usual, Marvel executives are tight-lipped about that. Both Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds are following their example. So all we can do is speculate.

Given Marvel's apparent course toward younger stars, it is likely that Jackman and Reynolds will never again appear on screen in title roles.

There is, however, the possibility of cameos. For instance, 2027's Avengers: Secret Wars is shaping up to be a huge multiversal event with lots of surprise stars. Besides, you never know how things will turn out. After all, Jackman did agree to don Wolverine's yellow suit seven years after Logan.
