Planning to binge John Krasinski's run as Tom Clancy's CIA analyst? It's a tidier commitment than most streaming thrillers — with a clear beginning, middle, and very deliberate end.

The short answer

Four seasons, 30 episodes, all on Prime Video. Seasons 1 through 3 have eight episodes each; season 4 has six. The show ran from August 31, 2018, to the series finale on July 14, 2023 — and season 4 is the definitive end, not a pause. Krasinski had signed on for exactly four seasons from the start.

The season-by-season breakdown

  • Season 1 (2018) — 8 episodes — Analyst Jack Ryan is pulled from his desk into the field to hunt the terrorist Mousa bin Suleiman. Wendell Pierce debuts as James Greer.
  • Season 2 (2019) — 8 episodes — A corrupt election and a weapons conspiracy in Venezuela. Noomi Rapace and Michael Kelly (as fan-favorite Mike November) join.
  • Season 3 (2022) — 8 episodes — Ryan goes fugitive across Europe to stop a rogue Russian faction from manufacturing a war. The most Cold War-flavored season of the lot.
  • Season 4 (2023) — 6 episodes — Now Acting Deputy Director, Ryan uncovers corruption inside the CIA itself, tied to a global crime syndicate. Michael Peña joins as Domingo "Ding" Chavez.

Watch time for the whole thing: roughly 25 hours.

Is there anything after season 4?

On television, no — and the one planned continuation died. A spinoff for Peña's Chavez, tied to Clancy's Rainbow Six unit, was in development from 2022 but was shelved by early 2026. Peña told ScreenRant in 2026 what he believed went wrong:

"They were fighting for the rights of the character."

The Clancy universe on Amazon isn't dead, though. Krasinski is attached to return as Ryan in a feature film, and a Rainbow Six movie with Michael B. Jordan ( following 2021's Without Remorse) has long been in the works with John Wick director Chad Stahelski attached — though neither has a release date.

Where should a new viewer start?

Episode one, season one. Unlike the movies — where Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck, and Chris Pine each played different, disconnected versions of Ryan — the series is one continuous story with a proper arc, ending on a broad hint that Ryan is presidential material. Clancy readers will smirk: in the books, he eventually gets the job.

For the record: Krasinski's four seasons make him the longest-serving Jack Ryan ever.

Five actors have worn the badge; only one got to finish the story.
