House of the Dragon stars Emma D'Arcy and Matt Smith turned a recent interview into a heartfelt salute to former co-star Milly Alcock.

Quick, unexpectedly sweet moment from the House of the Dragon Season 3 press tour: Emma D'Arcy and Matt Smith paused the forward-looking chatter to send a little love to the past — specifically to Milly Alcock, the actor who first set Rhaenyra on her path.

  • During a Season 3 interview, D'Arcy and Smith were asked if they had a message for Alcock. They did — immediately.
  • They also teased where things go next: Rhaenyra finally moves, Daemon gets back to the sharp-and-bloody stuff, and a new promo leans hard into her claim.
  • Meanwhile, Alcock is about to headline DC 's new era as Supergirl after a very real post-Dragon reset and some soul-searching about fame.

The message to Milly

"Can you just send our love? We miss her."

That was Emma D'Arcy, with Matt Smith echoing it right away. Smith also joked that saying they were proud of Alcock might come off "patronizing," which got a laugh in the room. It was a small, genuine beat in a press cycle that rarely allows for those.

Why it lands

If you hopped in late: Alcock played young Rhaenyra Targaryen and helped define the character before the show aged the role up and D'Arcy took over. That early run did a lot of heavy lifting — so seeing the current leads tip the crown to the person who built the foundation is a nice bit of continuity.

Season 3 temperature check

D'Arcy hinted that Rhaenyra finally stops playing defense after spending much of last season hemmed in by advisors and politics. Smith suggested Daemon slides back into his comfort zone: war, violence, and all the messy fallout that comes with it. A fresh promo that dropped June 9 backs that up, punctuated by Daemon declaring: "No one will rule but Rhaenyra, and none will stand against us."

Alcock's next chapter

Since leaving Dragon, Alcock's career has climbed fast. James Gunn tapped her as the DC Universe's new Supergirl, a role that is not a one-and-done — she is expected to be a major pillar of that franchise.

It was not a straight shot. Alcock told Vanity Fair that the HBO breakout came with a level of public scrutiny that made her rethink the whole machine for a minute. After the show, she even considered avoiding big franchises altogether. Work slowed, she worried about what came next, and then the DC offer arrived — and she took it.

Now Supergirl is nearing release, and based on the affection from D'Arcy and Smith, she is still very much part of the Dragon family, even if she is flying far beyond Westeros these days.

Do you miss Alcock's version of Rhaenyra, or are you mostly excited to see her suit up as DC's Supergirl?
