HBO just dropped fresh stills of Eric Dane back as Cal Jacobs, teasing his return as Jacob Elordi’s onscreen dad in Euphoria’s April 19 episode. The April 13 photo dump hints at a surprise comeback while keeping the how under wraps.

HBO just dropped a fresh batch of Euphoria photos, and yes — that is the late Eric Dane back as Cal Jacobs. If you were wondering whether Cal returns this season, the answer is finally: looks like it.

What the new pics show

The stills, released Monday, April 13, preview Cal visiting Nate (Jacob Elordi) and Nate’s fiancée Cassie (Sydney Sweeney ) at their place in the suburbs. HBO is signaling that Cal will appear in the Sunday, April 19 episode. Beyond that, they’re keeping quiet — so it’s unclear if this is a single return or part of a larger arc.

Cal wasn’t mentioned in the season premiere on Sunday, April 12, but the episode did open with a dedication to Dane and closed with acknowledgments for the late Angus Cloud and executive producer Kevin Turen.

"In remembrance of Eric Dane"

Remembering Eric Dane

Dane died in February at age 53 after battling ALS, a progressive nervous system disease that attacks nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord and currently has no cure. His family said he spent his final days surrounded by close friends, his wife, and his daughters, Billie and Georgia, and that he turned his diagnosis into advocacy for awareness and research.

"Eric adored his fans and is forever grateful for the outpouring of love and support he’s received. The family has asked for privacy as they navigate this impossible time."

He had gone public with his diagnosis less than a year earlier, in April 2025, saying:

"I have been diagnosed with ALS. I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter. I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to set of Euphoria next week. I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time."

About those dates (yeah, it’s messy)

The show’s loss extends beyond Dane. Angus Cloud, who played Fez, died at 25 following an accidental overdose, with reports listing July 2025. At a premiere event earlier this month, creator Sam Levinson talked about the long gap between seasons and honoring the people they’ve lost — and referenced 2023 when discussing fentanyl overdose statistics. You’re not imagining it: that’s a frustrating date clash in the coverage and remarks.

"Some people ask why it took so long between seasons 2 and 3. There were obvious factors — the strikes, trying to make a schedule work with our very in-demand cast, but the real time was in trying to figure out how to find a way to pay respect to those who we lost."

"When Angus died, it was tough. I loved him deeply, and I fought hard to keep him clean. The year he died, in 2023, he was one of 73,000 people in America who died of a fentanyl overdose... what I realized more than anything is that death is what gives life meaning."
