Hated Lost Finale? Dominic Monaghan Didn’t Even Watch It, but Not for the Reason You Think

Lost remains a show that left many questions unanswered. At first, it was one of the most refreshing and mysterious projects ever to appear on television. By the fourth season, however, it became clear that the story was running out of steam and the creators were unable to bring it to an end.
Nevertheless, loyal fans never lost hope that the writers had an ace up their sleeve that would surely please them. The fact that the characters ended up in a kind of purgatory was not only already in the minds of all viewers, but also devalued the rich universe of the series.
What Happened in the Lost Finale?
The Lost finale is often reduced to a simple "they were in purgatory" line, but that's only half true, because the last season took place on the island and in an alternate reality.
In the finale of the first storyline, Jack kills the Man in Black, sends Kate and Sawyer on a plane, appoints Hurley as the island's new protector, and dies in the same place he woke up in the first episode: a bamboo grove.
In another storyline, the "alternate reality" turns out to be purgatory, where the characters remember being on the island. At the funeral of Jack's father, the passengers of Flight 815 are reunited and walk out of the church into the light.
Dominic Monaghan Never Saw the Final Episode
Actor Dominic Monaghan, who played Charlie on Lost, didn't even watch the show's finale – but not because he was disappointed with the writers' choices. In an interview, the actor said:
“I didn't see the end, I was working at the time. I was doing a film called 'I Sell The Dead [...]. And I didn't want to watch Charlie, because I knew if I watched Charlie I'd be much more like him and the character I played in this film 'I Sell The Dead' was nothing like Charlie.”
When asked why he didn't watch the last episode later, the actor replied that he would have had to watch the entire series from the beginning and he wasn't ready for that.
By the way, Dominic does not consider the finale a failure, as many fans do. The actor commented on the criticism of the end of the series by saying that there are millions of Lost fans in the world and it is simply impossible to please everyone.
