Showrunner Ira Parker says George R.R. Martin has outlined up to 12 new Dunk and Egg novellas, with two already in the works and hopes for many more seasons of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

Fans of Westeros have plenty to look forward to, as showrunner Ira Parker recently shared that George R.R. Martin has mapped out ideas for as many as a dozen new novellas centered on Dunk and Egg. These stories could keep the saga alive for years, offering fresh adventures and deeper insight into the beloved duo’s journey.

“He has shared with me about 10 to 12 more little outlines for books, for novellas, taking Dunk and Egg all the way through their life,”

Parker explained.

“Right now, we’re focused on one, and we’ll see how the world responds to that. We’re making two at the moment. Hopefully, everybody likes it and we get to keep doing these. Certainly, I love doing it. I love writing in this world, and it’s a wonderful story. So, I hope we get to make as many of these as possible.”

Expanding the Dunk and Egg Universe

As of 2010, Martin’s Dunk and Egg tales include three novellas: The Hedge Knight, The Sworn Sword, and The Mystery Knight. The first, The Hedge Knight, has already been adapted for the debut season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. While it remains to be seen if all of Martin’s outlined stories will eventually be written—especially with fans still waiting for The Winds of Winter—the possibility of seeing Dunk and Egg’s adventures continue on screen is very real.

The show is set nearly a century before the events of Game of Thrones, following the fortunes of Dunk, a struggling hedge knight played by Peter Claffey, and his young squire Egg, portrayed by Dexter Sol Ansell. Together, they navigate the challenges of tournaments and the complex world of Westeros, striving to carve out their own legacy among legendary knights.

What’s Next for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms?

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is set to premiere on HBO and Sky on January 18. The series promises to bring new life to the Dunk and Egg stories, with two seasons already in production and the potential for many more if audiences respond positively. The creative team is eager to explore the full scope of Martin’s outlines, hoping to bring as many of these untold tales to the screen as possible.

For those eager to dive deeper into the world of Westeros, there’s more on the horizon. Several other Game of Thrones spin-offs and movies are in development, ensuring that fans will have plenty of stories to enjoy in the years ahead.
