Five Nights at Freddy's 2 Ending: Marionette's Revenge and Sequel Hints

Two years after the original Five Nights at Freddy's movie took theaters by storm, the highly anticipated follow-up, Five Nights at Freddy's 2, has arrived. The story picks up a year after the first film, with former security guard Mike Schmidt, his younger sister Abby, and police officer Vanessa trying to move forward after the horrors they survived. But the nightmare is far from over—Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria still has a grip on their lives.

The town has become obsessed with Freddy and his animatronic crew, turning them into local legends and even launching the first-ever Fazfest. Animatronics Unleashed and Marionette's Deadly Plan

Abby, without realizing the consequences, disables the animatronics' safety settings using a password the Marionette puppet forced out of Vanessa. This allows the Toy versions of Freddy, Bonnie, and Chica to escape the pizzeria and wreak havoc across town. The Marionette, possessed by Charlotte Emily's spirit, controls the robots with one goal: to hunt down adults and avenge Charlotte's death.

Charlotte's tragic fate is revealed in a flashback—she was killed by serial killer William Afton while trying to save another child, ignored by the adults at Freddy's. After the Marionette releases her, Vanessa sends Mike to the pizzeria to shut down the animatronics, while she searches for them around town. Mike tracks the robots: Freddy is at FazFest, Bonnie is at a house, and Chica is with Abby at the science fair, where Chica kills Abby's teacher.

Showdown With the Animatronics and a Sinister Twist

Vanessa manages to save two families after surviving an attack from Mangle, just before Mike disconnects the four main robots while dodging the withered animatronics back at the pizzeria. But chaos erupts again when the Toy animatronics reactivate, and the locator device detects the Marionette heading for Mike's home, likely targeting Abby.

Vanessa warns Mike they're outnumbered, so he returns to the original pizzeria to seek help from the classic animatronics, but gets no response. Vanessa arrives at Mike's house to find Abby possessed by the Marionette, but Mike uses Charlotte's music box to draw the spirit out of her.

Michael Afton's Return and the Fate of the Animatronics

Just as the Toy animatronics prepare to kill Mike, Abby, and Vanessa, Vanessa's long-lost brother, Michael Afton, appears. He reveals he's orchestrated the chaos to continue his father's legacy. When Vanessa refuses to join him, he orders the animatronics to attack. Suddenly, the original animatronics burst in, destroying the Toy versions to save the trio. However, since they were never meant to leave the restaurant, they quickly break down, and the spirits inside them ascend.

Before leaving, the ghost children tell Mike they've been keeping William Afton's body trapped in the Springtrap suit at the pizzeria, but now that they're gone, he may soon be free. Outside, Michael Afton tries to escape but is stopped by Mike's friend. As Mike, Abby, and Vanessa leave the house, the Marionette possesses Vanessa, ending the film with a chilling image of her transformed face.

Deaths, Survivors, and Sequel Teases

The body count in this sequel is surprisingly low. In a flashback to 1982, William Afton kills Charlotte Emily, whose spirit becomes the Marionette. In the present (2002), the animatronics kill a group of paranormal investigators, and Toy Chica murders Abby's teacher. Michael Afton gets punched, but survives.

There are more animatronics than ever before. The Toy versions are destroyed by the originals, who themselves break down after leaving the pizzeria. The withered animatronics power down, while Balloon Boy and the mini Marionette puppets remain at the restaurant. The Marionette escapes, ultimately possessing Vanessa. William Afton is mostly absent, but the ghost children reveal they've been keeping him locked away. A mid-credits scene shows men discovering Springtrap, hinting at future horrors. The ending leaves several storylines unresolved, setting the stage for more sequels to come.
