Finn Wolfhard opens up about his surprise cameo as Richie Tozier in the Welcome to Derry season 1 finale and hints at possible future appearances in the series.

Fans were caught off guard when Richie Tozier made a brief but memorable appearance in the season finale of Welcome to Derry. Finn Wolfhard, who played Richie in the It movies, has now shared that this may not be the last time viewers see a nod to his character in the series.

During the finale, Pennywise confronts Marge Truman—who is later revealed as Maggie Tozier—and tells her she will have a son named Richie. The implication is that Richie is named after Rich Santos, whose heroic actions saved Marge at The Black Spot. Pennywise then dramatically reveals a missing poster of Richie, the same one seen in Neibolt Street in the first It film, featuring Wolfhard’s likeness.

Wolfhard Reflects on His Cameo

In a recent interview, Wolfhard explained that he was aware of his cameo well before the episode aired.

"I knew that years ago, actually. When they first started thinking about that show, it was probably 2021,"

he told Esquire.

"Barbara and Andy Muschietti both told me, 'You're involved.' Yeah, I’m connected. I think there's something else that will come up eventually that I'm excited for people to see."

While Wolfhard didn’t give away any specifics, his comments suggest that Richie’s story may not be over. With Pennywise now aware of the circumstances surrounding his own demise, it wouldn’t be surprising if the villain sets his sights on more members of the Truman or Tozier families in future seasons. Although the show is planned for three seasons, only the first has been officially confirmed so far.

What’s Next for Welcome to Derry?

It remains uncertain whether Wolfhard will return in person or if Richie will continue to be referenced in other ways. The creative team has kept details under wraps, leaving fans to speculate about what’s in store for the next chapters of the series.

Outside of the It universe, Wolfhard recently wrapped filming on the fifth season of Stranger Things, which ended on an emotional note. For those interested in more details, there are reviews and breakdowns available that dive into the finale’s twists and turns.

Looking Ahead to Future Projects

As of now, a second season of Welcome to Derry hasn’t been officially greenlit. In the meantime, fans can keep an eye on upcoming Stephen King adaptations or explore some of the top shows currently streaming on HBO Max to fill the gap.
