Five years after its farewell, Adventure Time is back: a Finn and Jake spinoff just dropped a first look and locked its release date, as Cartoon Network’s revival streak surges ahead.

Finn and Jake are officially clocking back in. Five years after the last Finn-and-Jake-led entry wrapped, Adventure Time is spinning up a new series that aims straight for the early-days chaos. It is called 'Adventure Time: Side Quests,' and yes, we finally have a release date, a first look, and a whole lot of familiar voices.

So what is Side Quests?

The studio is pitching it as a 'companion' to the original show, not a straight revival. Translation: this is a back-to-basics run of lighter, self-contained adventures set during Finn and Jake's early days in Ooo. Think classic weirdness, bite-size stories, and a clean jumping-on point if you have never watched a frame of the original.

The rollout is a little unusual

In the U.S., Hulu is your hub. Internationally, it switches lanes to Cartoon Network for broadcast and HBO Max for streaming. It is a split release that might make your head tilt, but here is the clean version:

  • U.S. premiere: June 29 on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+
  • International: October 5 on Cartoon Network and streaming on HBO Max
  • Voice cast: John DiMaggio returns as Jake; Sasha Knight steps in as Finn
  • More returning voices: Tom Kenny as Ice King, Hynden Walch as Princess Bubblegum, Olivia Olsen as Marceline, Niki Yang as BMO
  • Creative team: Showrunner and executive producer Nate Cash; story editor Darrick Bachman; directors Victor Courtright and Niki Yang; art director Nick Cross; composer Matthew Janszen
  • Tone and format: stand-alone episodes that skew sillier, like the earliest seasons
  • First look: out now, teasing that classic Ooo energy

The vibe straight from the showrunner

"Making Side Quests felt like making the original Adventure Time, which felt like hanging out with art school buddies making professional cartoons. That sounds like a big sandwich of feelings, and it was! You're going to love these NEW adventures with Finn & Jake!"

That is Nate Cash, who was there for the original run and is now steering this ship. If the goal is to bottle that early-series sugar rush, he is the right person to try.

Where this fits in the bigger Adventure Time push

Cartoon Network has been dusting off its classics lately, and Adventure Time is front and center. Side Quests was one of the spin-offs announced back in 2024, and there is still a new movie in the pipeline. This series is not a same-team revival in the vein of The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball or Regular Show: The Lost Tapes, but it is very intentionally chasing that original spirit. Between the self-contained structure and the cast sliding back into place, it reads like a fresh on-ramp for new fans and a comfort-food reset for the lifers.

Bottom line: June 29 in the U.S., October 5 abroad. Finn and Jake are back to doing what they do best, and the show is meeting them where the chaos started. Works for me.
