A reimagining of Arthurian legend, a journey through the multiverse, and a tense escape from captivity thriller.

A closer look reveals that the main supplier of art-house and festival hits today is the A24 studio. We tell you which of their films are worth watching.

1. The Killing of a Sacred Deer, 2017

The son of the deceased comes to the doctor who caused the death of a patient and demands that he kill one of his children as an atonement.

If he cannot choose, then both will die of the curse, and you are wrong to think that you can come to an agreement or deceive some evil spirit.

Everything came together in one room of the house, in one family, with one sorrowful messenger and one guilt. Blood is the price for the birth of tragedy in a meaningless world.

2. Everything Everywhere All at Once, 2022

It would not be an exaggeration to call Everything Everywhere All at Once one of the best, if not the best, film released by A24. The fantastic action comedy became an Oscar winner.

The movie tells the story of Evelyn Wang, a laundry owner. Just before the Chinese New Year, the IRS brings more gifts in the form of unpaid bills, and her daughter does not help solve the financial crisis, but escalates the already difficult situation.

Just when it seemed that things couldn't get any worse, Evelyn discovers that she can travel between parallel universes where she lives many different lives.

3. The Lobster, 2015

Yorgos Lanthimos has established himself as a contemporary auteur whose films are regularly included in the program of the world's A-category film festivals. A24 has become one of the guides to the audience of Yorgos' films on the international arena.

In the near future, in an alternative universe, singles face an unenviable fate. Those who have never found a faithful life partner are sent to a "dating hotel": if they do not start a new romance within 45 days, they will have to turn into an animal.

David, accompanied by his brother, who has already turned into a dog, tries to come to terms with his fate or to escape the transformation.

4. Room, 2015

The plot tells the story of a hostage who spent more than seven years in captivity. Within four walls, behind an iron door, she gave birth to a child for whom the room was the whole world. The mother tried to fill this small universe with as much joy as possible.

Room surprises not only with its well-conceived dramaturgy and direction, but also with the duet of actors: the director does not focus on the personality of the rapist, but gives all his attention to the mother and her son – Brie Larson and Jacob Tremblay.

5. The Green Knight, 2021

The Green Knight is a new take on the medieval legend of King Arthur's closest companion.

Sir Gawain defeats the mysterious Green Knight in an unfair duel: the knight puts his own head under the axe. A year later, according to the terms of the fight, Gawain must pay the same debt, which he refuses to do. He is destined for a fabulous journey, but Gawain refuses to become a legendary hero.
