Duggar Family Fallout: Jason, Jill and More Break Their Silence on Joseph’s Arrest
The Duggar family is breaking its silence as a Florida vacation involving Joseph Duggar erupts into a firestorm, thrusting the 19 Kids and Counting clan back under intense public scrutiny.
Another day, another Duggar headline. This time it is Joseph Duggar, who was arrested last week on child molestation charges tied to an alleged incident from a 2020 family trip to Florida. The details are grim, multiple family members are speaking up (some more forcefully than others), and there is a second, separate set of charges involving his wife, Kendra, that landed a few days later. Here is where things stand and who said what.
The arrest and the allegation
On March 18, 2026, Joseph Duggar was taken into custody in Arkansas after Florida authorities obtained a warrant. The case traces back to a 2020 family vacation in Panama City Beach, Florida, where a 9-year-old girl says Joseph repeatedly tried to get her physically close to him. According to a Bay County Sheriff press release, he allegedly asked the child to sit on his lap and, later, under a blanket on a couch. The statement says he manipulated her underwear, grazed her genitals, and kept rubbing her thighs.
The charges and the court step
Joseph has been charged in Florida with two counts: one count of lewd and lascivious behavior involving molestation of a victim under 12, and a second count of lewd and lascivious behavior by a person 18 or older. He appeared in court on March 20, waived extradition, and agreed to be transferred to Florida to face those charges.
The separate case with Kendra
A few days after his arrest, news broke that Joseph is also facing four counts of second degree endangering the welfare of a minor and four counts of second degree false imprisonment. Those counts are tied to a case that also names his wife, Kendra Duggar. Kendra was arrested on March 20, 2026, and released the same day on bond. These charges are separate from the Florida molestation case.
What the family is saying
Reactions have poured in from the sprawling Duggar orbit. Some are straightforward condemnations; others are careful statements that read like they were built by committee. Worth noting: Joseph’s brother Josh is still in prison after being convicted of possessing child sexual abuse material, and yes, he weighed in too.
- Jill Duggar Dillard posted on the family blog that she and Derick only learned about Joseph’s arrest from a friend’s text linking media reports about an alleged 2020 confession. She called the news shocking and heartbreaking, said they strongly condemn abuse, support the rule of law, and that their hearts are with the child and her family. She also hopes the victim gets all the help and support she needs.
- Josh Duggar, via his attorney to the Daily Mail, said he is deeply saddened by the allegations. The statement argues he understands the stigma of being accused and how false accusations can destroy a life or be twisted for publicity. Josh and Joseph are reportedly not in frequent contact, but Josh says he hopes and prays for his brother’s well being. Reminder: Josh is currently serving time for possession of child pornography.
- Amy Duggar King told Us Weekly she is sickened, heartbroken, and angry, and that her first concern is the victim. She praised the child’s courage in coming forward years later, said she has long pushed for truth and accountability in a family system she calls toxic, and warned that protecting an image over truth creates space for abuse. She said she is praying for the victim, for Kendra as she processes this, and for the protection of Joseph and Kendra’s children. After news of Kendra’s arrest, Amy posted a video in tears.
Family ties should never equal automatic trust or access, especially when it comes to the safety of children.
- Jessa Duggar Seewald and husband Ben said on March 20 they were in complete shock, grieving for the child, and are praying for her. Jessa later deleted the post that same day.
- Jinger Duggar Vuolo said on her March 25 podcast that the week felt like years and that her heart is shattered. She referenced having lived through something similar with another sibling’s unthinkable choices and talked about the heavy ripple effects. Jeremy Vuolo added they are praying for the victim and called the impact on a young person unimaginable.
- Jason Duggar and Maddie Grace Duggar posted March 26 that they are shocked, confused, and disgusted. They emphasized this is about a child’s life being turned upside down by evil actions, said they want to see justice served in court, and called abusing authority to harass the innocent vile. They asked for prayers for the victim and for Joseph’s family, noting his four kids with Kendra now face the reality of losing a father who was supposed to be a spiritual leader. They closed with: We stand with innocent children. Always.
Bottom line
Joseph has two felony lewd-and-lascivious counts pending in Florida and, separately, he and Kendra are staring down multiple counts tied to endangering the welfare of a minor and false imprisonment. He waived extradition and will face the Florida case there. The family’s public posture ranges from unequivocal support for the alleged victim to careful legalese. However this plays out in court, it is clear the collateral damage inside and outside the family is already massive.
