Did The Boys Just Outdo Itself with This SPN Cameo in Season 4?
Turns out the SPN God enjoys some dubious carnal pleasures.
Summary
- On June 13, 2024, the first three episodes of The Boys Season 4 were released on Prime.
- The second episode featured an actor known for his villainous role on Supernatural.
- His new character is an ironic counterpoint to the grandeur of his SPN counterpart.
After last year's drought in film and television caused by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, 2024 has proven to be a veritable feast. And among the most notable releases of the past six months is, of course, the fourth season of The Boys, the R-rated anti-superhero action series that has been delivering witty satire and brutal violence for five years now.
The first three episodes of The Boys Season 4 just landed on Prime Video yesterday, June 13, 2024, but hardcore fans have already had a chance to watch them through and through, leaving them in raptures. Considering that The Boys was created by none other than Supernatural creator Eric Kripke, it is obviously not without references to the iconic series about the Winchester brothers. However, this time it is not about Jensen Ackles, as there is a notable SPN cameo in Season 4.
The Cameo That Will Forever Spoil Our Perception of Supernatural
Eric Kripke has used Supernatural actors several times in his superhero series: Jensen Ackles, Jim Beaver, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan to name a few. And while SPN had enough satire, metahumor, and outright silliness, its tone will never compare to what happens to the aforementioned actors' characters in The Boys.
Another SPN star appeared in Season 4, and his role turned out to be the craziest cameo of the entire series: in the second episode, titled Life Among the Septics, none other than Rob Benedict, who played God on Supernatural, appears. Oh, we meant Chuck. Of course we meant Chuck!
However, we now guarantee that you will not see Supernatural in the same light as before. While God was no less intimidating a character than Homelander, Benedict's new role is truly insane. The actor plays Splinter, a rather pathetic superhero who can clone himself. But he uses his powers for sexual self-pleasure.
Eric Kripke on Benedict's Involvement in the Show
There was enough outright madness in The Boys that was either carried over from the comic or invented by the writers. Should we even mention how much Kripke destroyed our perception of milk?
Still, Splinter turned out to be the wildest addition. Kripke talked to Variety about whether Rob Benedict was ready for it.
'I said, "Here are the things that this role is going to be doing, and you need to know exactly what you're getting into, because we're friends." So I explained every single scene, and he was just down to do it. He just thought it was hilarious — and it is,' the showrunner said. Kripke also revealed how these scenes were filmed in the first place
'And the stuff we had to do to make all that work — like, we had to make a perfect prosthetic of his ass so he could eat his own ass in the same shot. Because it's a seven-day shoot, that fight scene, and he's every other person in that fight, that's a lot of time to be naked. So we ended up building a prosthetic penis, for what it's worth. So he's not so much naked, as he is wearing a thong for seven days. But pretty close.'
Finally, Eric Kripke spoke highly of his longtime colleague, saying it was 'a blast to work with him again.'
A new episode of The Boys Season 4 will be released on Prime Video on June 20, 2024.
