Did Andrew Garfield gush over rumored girlfriend Monica Barbaro in 'Artificial'?
Andrew Garfield is talking up Monica Barbaro—and what she brings to Artificial—even as romance rumors around them keep swirling.
While making the rounds for Artificial, Andrew Garfield didn’t just nod to his co-stars — he singled out Monica Barbaro with the kind of unfiltered praise you don’t often hear on a press line. Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Garfield lit up when asked about sharing the screen with her in Luca Guadagnino’s drama about the rise of OpenAI, which Neon is releasing in the U.S.
“She's a wonderful actor, she's so talented, I've been a fan of hers for so long,” Garfield said, adding that Barbaro brings “this kind of mysterious enigma” to life in a “complex and human way.”
He didn’t stop there. Garfield described the film ’s ensemble as “brilliant,” saying they surprised him on set every day, and summed up working with the group as “joyful.”

A quiet timeline
Garfield’s compliments arrive as the pair continue to dodge, not deny, the dating talk. Neither has publicly confirmed a relationship, but the sightings have stacked up:
- January 2025 — Photographed together at W magazine’s Best Performances party, his arm around her.
- February 2025 — Video from a London performance of Richard II sparks dating rumors; a report the next day says they’re quietly seeing each other.
- March 2025 — At the Oscars, they arrive separately but hit the red carpet at the same time.
- April 2025 — Spotted holding hands in Kyoto.
- August 2025 — Seen together during the Venice Film Festival.
- June 2026 — Photographed kissing over dinner in Rome; a week later, another PDA moment at Wimbledon.
- August 2026 — Garfield joins Barbaro in New York after the premiere of her film One Night Only.
They’re still keeping it off the record, but on camera, Garfield’s admiration for Barbaro’s work couldn’t be more on the nose.
