Dexter Sol Ansell Wraps A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight Season 2
Dexter Sol Ansell has wrapped his stint on A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2 as George R.R. Martin shares a personal update on the HBO series.
On August 3, Dexter Sol Ansell told fans on Instagram he’d wrapped his work on season 2 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms . In the short clip, you can hear the crew call his season wrap while the screen stays black — a spoiler-proof way to mark the moment without giving away what’s on set.
With Ansell done, co-lead Peter Claffey (Ser Duncan the Tall) is expected to finish soon too, putting production into its final stretch. The shoot hit a major snag earlier this year when historic rainfall and flooding on Gran Canaria forced a halt at the Las Niñas Dam and pushed some outdoor scenes to new locations. Even so, HBO chief Casey Bloys and showrunner Ira Parker said the series stayed on track, wrapping most location work in Spain and continuing principal photography in Belfast.
Season 2 is targeting the first half of 2027 and is set for six episodes.
Martin returns to the blog
After more than six months of silence on his “Not a Blog,” George R.R. Martin, 77, resurfaced with a post titled “Better Late Than Never.” He describes 2026 as a stressful year packed with dream-come-true moments and painful losses. There’s no fresh publishing news in the entry — including no update on The Winds of Winter — but he makes time to cheer the show adapting his Dunk and Egg novellas.
Martin notes the series has scored nine Emmy nominations, including Best Drama, calling that a highlight of his year and praising the creative team. He says he hopes to attend the Emmys at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on September 14, schedule and health permitting. He also admits disappointment that the cast — including Claffey and Ansell — didn’t land acting nods, adding there’s always next year, a nod to the show’s annual release plan.
- Release window: first half of 2027
- Episodes: six, again centered on Dunk and Egg’s travels across a politically fragile Westeros
- Production: locations in Spain; principal photography in Belfast
- Status: Ansell wrapped; Claffey expected to finish shortly
- Awards: nine Emmy nominations, including Best Drama
Parker has reiterated that the plan remains to debut season 2 in the first half of 2027.
