Deadpool & Wolverine: How the Movie Changed the MCU Multiverse, Explained
These two just rewrote some rules.
Deadpool & Wolverine, played by Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, are not retiring anytime soon. The Merc with a Mouth's third solo film paved the way for his and Logan's future adventures. Here, we explain where to expect the mutants in the future and how their antics will affect the Marvel franchise.
How Deadpool & Wolverine Will Affect the MCU
In the new movie, Deadpool learned that his world, Earth-10005, could disappear. Wolverine, who died in 2017's Logan, turned out to be the anchor being of the dimension. The universe began to slowly die, and Mr. Paradox of Time Variance Authority decided to speed up the process with the help of the Time Ripper. At the same time, Paradox wanted to get rid of the Void's dangerous mistress, Cassandra Nova, the twin sister of Charles Xavier.
This enraged Nova, and she decided to take control of the device and destroy all dimensions, leaving only the Void. However, Deadpool and Wolverine destroyed the machine, resulting in Cassandra's death and Paradox's arrest. Wolverine became the new anchor being of Earth-10005, leaving his original world and settling in Deadpool's dimension.
Deadpool and Wolverine expanded the multiverse while making the MCU more confusing. Deadpool's main world has been updated – now there is a new Wolverine who is sure to change the dark future of the X-Men described in Logan.
Deadpool and Logan saved the multiverse and showed the TVA leadership that worlds can be managed more flexibly. After the events of the Loki series, the TVA stopped shutting down "extra" timelines. This will lead to more realities – Marvel can develop them in new projects.
Will Deadpool and Wolverine Appear in Other MCU Projects?
At the beginning of the movie, Deadpool went to an interview with Happy Hogan to join the Avengers team. Happy did not accept him because he was not ready to be an Avenger. According to him, the Avengers are those who are ready to fight for good until the end. Deadpool asked to join the Avengers because of his ambitions.
In the finale, Deadpool sacrificed himself to save the multiverse. Deadpool and Wolverine had to decide who would become a living conductor between the energy currents of matter and antimatter.
Deadpool locked himself in the car, deciding that he was the one who initiated the mission and was responsible for saving the multiverse. Wolverine broke down the door and joined Deadpool – because of this they both survived.
Deadpool has proven that protecting his universes and friends is more important to him than his own life – which means he can now become an Avenger. TVA may ask Deadpool and Wolverine to help the Avengers deal with Doctor Doom (played by Robert Downey Jr.) in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
Marvel is also planning to make a new X-Men movie, which it has been teasing audiences for a long time – there are hints, for example, in The Marvels and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Director Shawn Levy hopes to develop the main Deadpool franchise and make another crossover – this time with Spider-Man (played by Tom Holland).
