DCU Nightwing rumors swirl around Mason Thames as Dick Grayson
Mason Thames landing Dick Grayson in Dynamic Duo instantly raises the bigger DCU question: could this be the setup for the DCU’s live-action Nightwing?
The next voice behind Dick Grayson is set: Mason Thames will play the character as Robin in DC Studios and Warner Bros. ’ animated feature Dynamic Duo, per TheWrap. The confirmation followed an earlier industry report that initially framed Thames as “Nightwing,” and the actor fanned the chatter by posting Nightwing comics on Instagram — but that’s speculation. There’s no announcement tying him to a live-action Nightwing in the DCU.
Inside Dynamic Duo
The movie centers on Dick Grayson and Jason Todd during their younger years, reimagining their origin: the boys start as orphaned childhood friends whose lives split in different directions — Dick becomes Batman ’s Robin, while Jason gets pulled toward the Red Hood Gang.
- Mason Thames — Dick Grayson/Robin (confirmed via TheWrap)
- Logan Kim — Jason Todd (reported by The InSneider; not officially announced)
- Lee Pace — member of the Red Hood Gang (attached)
- Steve Buscemi — member of the Red Hood Gang (attached)
Dynamic Duo is currently dated for September 22, 2028.
What about live-action Nightwing?
DC Studios’ upcoming Batman film, The Brave and the Bold — directed by Andy Muschietti — spotlights Bruce Wayne and his son Damian Wayne as Robin and will include members of the wider Bat-Family. That setup naturally has fans wondering about Nightwing, Red Hood and more, but DC hasn’t named a live-action Dick Grayson, and Thames’ casting is specific to the animated film.
Separate from the DCU plans, The Batman: Part II is slated for 2028 under Matt Reeves. DC has not announced a release date for The Brave and the Bold; reports have floated 2029 timing, but nothing official.
