Summary

  • The filming of One Piece Season 2 has started.
  • It was also revealed that one of the characters will be played by David Dastmalchian.
  • His role hints at what we can expect from the upcoming season.

The live-action series One Piece proved to be an instant hit on Netflix, earning praise from critics and viewers alike for its writing, directing, pacing, editing, special effects and, not surprisingly, its acting. As a result, the immense popularity of One Piece led Netflix to announce the second season two weeks after the release of the first.

Active production did not commence until this year, and filming only began this month. However, along with this news, the second season of One Piece began to grow with intriguing details. In particular, we learned about the new actors who will join the cast of the show.

It was also revealed that one of the main antagonists of the upcoming season will be played by none other than David Dastmalchian. Fans who are familiar with the manga and anime are already excited, because in addition to a big name in the cast, his role is an indication of what to expect in One Piece Season 2.

The Cast of One Piece Has Been Expanded

As the production team has begun filming the second season of One Piece, intriguing details have emerged in recent days about the actors who will be playing characters new to the series. Let's take a look at the new cast members:

  • Brendan Murray as Brogy
  • Werner Coetser as Dorry
  • Clive Russell as Crocus
  • David Dastmalchian as Mr. 3
  • Camrus Johnson as Mr. 5
  • Daniel Lasker as Mr. 9
  • Jazzara Jaslyn as Miss Valentine

Why Is Dastmalchian's Involvement So Important?

Of all the actors mentioned above, two are the most recognizable. These are Clive Russell, who played Brynden Tully in Game of Thrones, and of course David Dastmalchian, whose name has been plastered all over the media in recent years. This year, for example, his acting chops have caught the attention of critics and audiences alike after the horror film Late Night with the Devil, in which he plays a troubled late-night talk show host from the '70s.

All in all, while it's certainly not Jamie Lee Curtis-level casting, fans are incredibly excited to see such a talented addition to the cast of One Piece. Furthermore, if you look at Eiichiro Oda's illustrations, Dastmalchian has a similar type to Mr. 3. The latter, whose real name is Galdino, is a cold and calculating strategist with tremendous charisma — the best match for a talent like David Dastmalchian.

What Can We Expect from Season 2?

Both the casting of Dastmalchian and the rest of the new actors say a lot about what we can expect in the upcoming season. First of all, all of these characters, with the exception of Brogy and Dorry, are members of Baroque Works, the crime syndicate that went after Zoro in the first season.

However, what unites them all is their appearance in the Little Garden Arc, a story arc of the manga and anime that will present us with many epic battles. The action takes place on a prehistoric island where dinosaurs still live. There, the Straw Hat Pirates will encounter the giants Brogy and Dorry.

What's more, the arc is part of a larger story segment of the Arabasta Saga, which will apparently be the focus of Season 2. In other words, we should expect even more new characters, the cast of which Netflix will reveal in the coming months. So fans should expect to see familiar names like Vivi, Dr. Kureha and Tony Tony Chopper — but it's not certain that the latter two will appear in the next season.

One Piece Season 2 is scheduled to premiere in 2025.
