Who knows, maybe CBS has yet to find out what fan rage is all about!

Summary

  • CBS remains adamant that it has no plans to renew Blue Bloods after Season 14.
  • Furious fans, meanwhile, are actively campaigning to save the show.
  • Viewers' discontent was widely expressed in the comments section of a recent post by Erin Reagan's Bridget Moynahan.

With less than 500 signatures left, a petition is poised to garner up to 25,000 votes from fans demanding that Blue Bloods be brought back after Season 14. Will CBS heed the pleas of viewers? Unfortunately, the answer is known only to CBS execs (though perhaps not even to themselves), so all we can do is continue to stand our ground and demand the return of our favorite show.

Blue Bloods has been a mainstay of primetime television for nearly 14 years, so it's no surprise that viewers took the news of the show's cancellation so personally. And now, whenever one of the cast members shares something about the show on social media, fans use those posts as a platform for their desperate pleas and laments.

Such was the case with a recent Instagram post by Erin Reagan's portrayer, Bridget Moynahan, and viewers' sentiments are a great indicator of how ill-considered CBS' decision to cancel Blue Bloods was.

Fans Demand Show Return After Bridget Moynahan's New Post

During the almost 14 years of Blue Bloods, its cast has become a family not only in the script, as many actors, no less than fans, have expressed their disappointment over the show's cancellation.

'I think it's more saying goodbye to the people behind the characters,' Bridget Moynahan shared on The Drew Barrymore Show. 'We've created such a family on set with each other and the crew — most of the crew's been with us for 14 years, so we've been through a lot of weddings, births, deaths, and everything. We've been through it all with each other.'

So it's no surprise that many fans have shared their concerns about CBS' unfair decision with the cast.

Moynahan, for example, recently shared a post on her personal Instagram account announcing the midseason finale (which aired Friday, May 17) and noting that it was the 'last show until fall.'

Fans immediately took to the comments section to express their outrage. Many pointed out that Blue Bloods is one of the best projects in primetime right now and that the network stands to lose a lot with its axing. Others suggested that the show be moved to a streaming format and given a permanent home on Paramount+.

Is There Any Hope for Renewal?

While the cancellation of Blue Bloods was long overdue before the start of Season 14 (it essentially only exists because the cast and crew agreed to take a 25% pay cut), the decision still seems unfair. To make matters worse, CBS has suddenly decided to reverse its decision to cancel another popular procedural, S.W.A.T. with Shemar Moore.

As a result, in March 2024, fans started an Internet campaign to save Blue Bloods. Viewers are calling on CBS to renew the show for at least 7 more episodes, wrapping up the long-running series with the 300th episode. But there are also hopes for an entirely new season. The Change.org petition has nearly 25,000 signatures.

Unfortunately, CBS' decision to cancel Blue Bloods appears to be final. On May 2, CBS held a press conference announcing a new fall schedule with a focus on new shows. Regarding Blue Bloods, Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach explicitly stated that the show will end in December.

However, there are no irreversible actions, the petition is gaining traction, many actors continue to support the fans, and new projects planned for the Blue Bloods time slot may not be as popular. So things could still change.

In the meantime, we still have to wait for the second half of Blue Bloods Season 14, which will air on CBS in October 2024.
