Bridgerton Season 3 Hints at Upcoming Mirror Scene with Clever Easter Egg
Everybody stay calm.
Summary
- Fans are eagerly hoping that Bridgerton's third season will feature a famous scene from the book.
- The hotly anticipated carriage scene made it in, so will the mirror scene be next?
- Hints from the team and a major Easter egg have suggested we're in for a treat.
When they found out that the romance between Colin and Penelope would take center stage in Bridgerton Season 3, fans who had read the book had only two demands:
- THAT carriage scene
- THAT mirror scene
Bridgerton fans are thirsty and they don't care who knows it.
Well, the first four episodes have dropped and a carriage scene sure delivered the goods. But will we get the infamous mirror scene, possibly the most NSFW scenario in the Bridgerton novels? So far, all Easter eggs point to yes.
Carriage Scene: Check
In Julia Quinn's novel, Colin discovers that Penelope is Lady Whistledown when he follows her into a quiet church in a bad part of town. Curious about her motives, he watches from the shadows as Penelope slips some papers into the pages of an anonymous hymnbook.
It honestly should get kudos for being a pretty clever ploy (Penelope, as a single young woman, can't really go anywhere or talk to anyone, so the system works). But Colin doesn't want to give kudos! He's mad! Mad, we say!
So he follows Penelope into her carriage, scolds her, and when they are both good and angry they make out passionately and she climbs him like a tree. (But a sexy tree. Like a freakin' redwood or something.)
In the Netflix show we got all of the sexiness but none of the scolding, which was pretty great. Colin doesn't know about the Whistledown thing yet, so it was just all passionate kissing, declarations, and pauses for consent.
All of this gave fans high hopes: clearly, the writers are paying attention to fan thirst. So… does that mean that the mirror scene will be next?
What Is This Mirror Scene Of Which You Speak?
It's like… *blushes furiously* … like Colin tells Penelope that he wants to sit her in front of a mirror so he can watch her reactions when he… you know… does stuff. To her.
And then later in the book he does just that.
Ahem.
Is That A Mirror?
A mirror scene is almost certainly in our Netflix future, as several Easter eggs have hinted.
Penelope has spent an unusual amount of time this season looking at herself in her bedroom mirror. And while Colin sits at his desk and muses, we catch a glimpse of his reflection in the enormous mirror in his study. Both Penelope's bedroom and Colin's office have been set up as possibilities for their amorous interlude.
When Nicola Coughlan (Penelope) was asked for hints about what fans could expect from season 3, she gave them one word: 'Mirror'.
And even the more official Bridgerton channels seem to be broadcasting something. A mirror emoji has appeared on many of the Bridgerton social media posts.
Most cleverly of all, a poster image for season 3 showed Penelope gazing at the audience… through the medium of a mirror.
The first half of Bridgerton season 3 debuted at #1 on the Netflix chart in 78 countries. Only a week in, it has racked up a remarkable 45.1 million views. The second half of Bridgerton season 3 drops on June 16.
