There’s $100 million riding on Jennifer Lopez’s new project, and the comparisons it’s already drawing are exactly the kind studios pray not to hear.

Early test screenings are reportedly at the center of the latest dustup around The Last Mrs. Parrish, the $100 million Netflix thriller starring Jennifer Lopez and directed by Robert Zemeckis. According to Page Six, the movie ’s early feedback prompted Lopez to push for a different approach in the edit bay, putting her at odds with Zemeckis over the film ’s final cut.

That report describes competing versions of what’s going on: some sources frame Lopez’s involvement as a takeover, while others say she’s trying to salvage the project after those tests. Either way, the stakes are high for a prestige thriller that isn’t set to reach viewers for a while.

Netflix pushes back

Netflix is flatly rejecting the idea that the film stumbled with audiences or that its creative team is divided. In a statement to Page Six, a studio spokesperson countered the testing claims with a pointed note about who the movie is connecting with so far.

“The film tested well, particularly with fans of Jennifer.”

The streamer, Lopez and Zemeckis also issued a joint denial to Page Six, dismissing the feud narrative and insisting they’re aligned on the cut.

They called the claims “categorically false,” adding that any suggestion the filmmakers were not working in unison was “without merit.”

The Page Six piece has already drawn comparisons to the much-discussed Blake Lively–Justin Baldoni clash around It Ends With Us, where creative disagreements spilled into a lengthy legal fight following that film’s August 2024 premiere. Here, though, all sides are on record saying the reported rift on The Last Mrs. Parrish isn’t real.

The thriller is still a ways off; it’s not expected to arrive on Netflix until 2027 .
