Billy Bob Thornton Eyes On-Screen Collaboration With Country Icons
Billy Bob Thornton, known for his dual careers in acting and music, is eager to join forces on screen with country superstars Faith Hill and Tim McGraw, both of whom have shared acting credits with him in the past.
Billy Bob Thornton has always walked the line between two worlds. While many know him for his acclaimed film roles, he’s just as passionate about his music career. Thornton doesn’t love being labeled as an actor who dabbles in music, nor does he see himself strictly as a musician who acts. For him, both crafts are equally important, and he’s managed to carve out a life where he can pursue both with equal dedication. He may have more film credits than albums, but he spends more nights on stage than on set, and that’s exactly how he wants it.
Despite his success in both arenas, Thornton still dreams of bringing his two passions together in a new way. Over the years, he’s worked with a host of celebrated musicians, both as a solo artist and with his band, the Boxmasters. He’s even turned down the chance to direct a music video for Bob Dylan, one of his idols. But there are two names he’s especially eager to collaborate with—not in the studio, but in front of the camera.
Country Power Couple: Faith Hill and Tim McGraw
For those unfamiliar with the country music scene, Faith Hill and Tim McGraw are nothing short of legends. Both have achieved massive success individually, and together, they’re considered the ultimate power couple in country music. Their influence stretches far beyond the stage, and they’ve both ventured into acting as well.
Thornton has already crossed paths with both stars in the acting world. Tim McGraw appeared alongside him in the 2004 sports drama Friday Night Lights, where Thornton played the lead. Later, both McGraw and Hill starred as Margaret and James Dutton in the series 1883, with Thornton making a memorable cameo as U.S. Marshal Jim Courtright. Despite these connections, the three have never truly shared the spotlight together in a major project.
Hopes for a Future Collaboration
Thornton and the country duo have been friends for years, and the idea of working together on a new project is something he’s genuinely excited about. When asked about the possibility of Hill and McGraw joining the cast of his Golden Globe-nominated TV series Landman, Thornton was enthusiastic.
“Well, that would be awesome if they do,”
he said.
“But, you know, Taylor Sheridan, he kind of picks and chooses whatever he wants for the show. We don’t have a lot of clout in terms of that, but maybe we’ll bring their names up and see what happens.”
Showrunner Taylor Sheridan is known for casting familiar faces across his various projects, many of which appeal to fans of country music. Given this trend, there’s a real chance Thornton’s wish could come true. And if not, there’s always the possibility of a musical collaboration down the road.
