On Saturday, April 25, Beyoncé marked the 25th anniversary of Destiny's Child’s third album Survivor with a heartfelt Instagram salute to her bandmates.

Twenty-five years since Destiny's Child dropped 'Survivor.' Time is fake. Beyoncé marked the anniversary with a rare bit of sentimentality and a little group in-joke for the fans.

'Today celebrates the 25th Anniversary of Destiny's Child's third album, Survivor. To my soul sisters, I thank God for you both. It ’s an honor to sing through life with you ladies by my side. Behind the curtains, beyond the lights, forever my Angels. Ma kee ta ta.'

- Beyoncé, 44, on Instagram, Saturday, April 25

'Survivor' hit in April 2001 and basically lived on radio that year. The title track was everywhere, 'Independent Woman Part I' was still dominating from the Charlie's Angels moment, 'Bootylicious' became a word your parents knew, and 'Nasty Girl' rounded out the singles run. It was the album that cemented the trio version of Destiny's Child as the one burned into pop history.

Quick refresher: how we got here

  • Original lineup: Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, LaTavia Roberson, LeToya Luckett. Roberson and Luckett exited in 2000; Michelle Williams stepped in.
  • The 'Survivor' era (April 2001) sealed the group as a three-piece: Beyoncé, Kelly, Michelle.
  • They officially called it in 2006 to chase solo careers. No messy breakup tour, just three artists going their own way.
  • Reunions have popped up when it counts: a Super Bowl halftime reunion, Coachella 2018, and most recently a 2025 'Cowboy Carter' tour stop where Beyoncé brought the group back out again.

They never really left each other

Even with three separate careers, the connection never frayed. They show up when the moment is big, they rehearse like it still matters, and they still hit choreography like it has muscle memory. Back in 2020, Beyoncé's dad and former manager Mathew Knowles said he hoped the trio would keep finding ways to perform together, while acknowledging the obvious: coordinating families and careers is a lot. He also praised their Coachella set for proving they could disappear for years and not miss a beat. Proud dad energy, and fair assessment.

Life outside the spotlight

Kelly Rowland has two sons with her husband Tim Weatherspoon. Beyoncé and Jay-Z are parents of three. The family piece is real, which makes the occasional group reunion feel more like a victory lap than a requirement.

The Broadway chapter

In 2024, Beyoncé and Kelly turned up to cheer Michelle Williams in her Broadway run of 'Death Becomes Her.' A few months later, Michelle said she would love for them to try the stage too and added that they could absolutely anchor a show if they wanted. Not a tease, more like an open invitation.

As for that 'Ma kee ta ta' sign-off in Beyoncé's post: if you know, you know. Some things from the dressing room should stay exactly that sacred.
