Bella Hadid Stuns in Rare Cannes Red Carpet Comeback
Making a rare red-carpet return, Bella Hadid, 29, stole the spotlight at the 79th Cannes Film Festival’s Garance screening on Sunday, May 17, dazzling in a pale gray satin strapless gown with a bejeweled bodice and a dramatic train.
Bella Hadid popped back onto the Cannes red carpet for a rare appearance, and yes, she made it count. She hit the 79th annual Cannes Film Festival on Sunday, May 17, for the Garance screening in Cannes, France, and brought her brother Anwar along for the walk-and-wave.
The look
- A strapless satin gown in a pale gray tone with a jeweled bodice and a long, dramatic train
- A matching wrap draped off her shoulders
- Hair swept into an updo
- A white-gold Chopard jewelry set: earrings plus diamond rings
- White pointed-toe heels to finish it off
- Plus-one: Anwar Hadid, 26, in a classic black tux with a white shirt and tie
Where her head is at now
Seeing Bella back on a big carpet is notable because a few months before this event, she talked openly about pulling back from work to focus on her health. In a Vogue Italia cover chat with her sister Gigi Hadid, she said she has been rethinking the whole grind mentality after ongoing treatment for Lyme disease. Bella was diagnosed in 2013, kept working even through COVID, and eventually realized the pace was not sustainable. Gigi, 31, chimed in that they are trying to schedule life and work with longevity in mind.
Bella explained that spending time in Texas with her horses and her dog, actually living a normal life, has made returning to work feel more meaningful. Last year, she said she had to turn down every job for almost twelve months while doing Lyme treatment. That was rough emotionally; she cried over it and admitted it made her feel disposable for a while. She has worked through that in therapy, especially the habit of tying her worth to how busy she is or how many gigs she books. Early in their careers, she and Gigi felt like they were in no position to say no to anything. Now, different story.
And that is good enough. And I am good enough.
So yes, the red carpet glam is still very much intact. But the person wearing it is drawing firmer lines, choosing projects with people she trusts and respects, and not pretending the grind is the only way forward.
