Amid financial struggles, why did 'Harry Potter' star Jessie Cave join OnlyFans?
Years after leaving the wizarding world, Harry Potter star Jessie Cave opens up about how building a career while raising children has been rougher than fans might expect.
On the British daytime show This Morning, Jessie Cave talked frankly about why she joined OnlyFans while raising four kids and trying to keep a creative career going. The former Harry Potter actor said the cost of childcare made it nearly impossible to accept gigs, and even taking her one-woman work to the Edinburgh Festival stopped making financial sense once she factored in bringing the children along.
“It’s really embarrassing, and people don’t like talking about money, do we? I was in Harry Potter, but it was a smallish part, and it was 20 years ago,”
Speaking to hosts Craig Doyle and Angela Scanlon, Cave noted that playing Lavender Brown made her recognizable, but not rich. Since the films, most of her work has been in comedy, writing and theater — the kind of projects that don’t always sync with school runs and paid childcare.
The 39-year-old said she turned to OnlyFans with a very specific idea: non-sexual videos centered on her exceptionally long hair. The account has grown to around 3,500 subscribers paying $6 a month, with additional income from paid messages — enough, she said, to keep the lights on while she figures out her next move.
For Cave, the platform has been a practical stopgap more than a reinvention: a way to work from home on her own schedule and remain financially afloat while she plans her next chapter as an artist.
Others finding a path
Cave’s pivot mirrors a broader trend of performers using the subscription model for stability or control when traditional jobs dry up.
- Drea de Matteo — The Sopranos alum has said OnlyFans helped her keep her home during a rough patch.
- Shannon Elizabeth — The American Pie star has described joining as a way to reclaim how she presents herself and her career.
Cave called her own page a bridge — something that buys time and pays bills while she decides what comes next.
