5 Most Gruesome Horror Movies in History if You Liked Terrifier 3
Some people like movies that make them feel good and lift their spirits. Others – expect shock and thrills.
Terrifier 3, the most brutal slasher of recent years, was recently released in theaters. In honor of this, we have collected the most shocking horror films in history.
1. Audition, 1999
Businessman Aoyama, whose wife has recently died, decides to find himself a new girlfriend. To save time, on the advice of a movie producer friend, he organizes fake screen tests and watches dozens of candidates for the role of his future wife.
His choice falls on the mysterious Asami, whom the widower asks out on a date, unaware that behind her angelic exterior lies a cruel monster.
Audition is the most sensational and unconditionally the best work of director Takashi Miike, whose films are famous for their unprecedented ultra-violence. Here, the director turned to a popular trope in Japanese culture, when a woman cruelly takes revenge on a man.
2. Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, 1986
Former prisoner Henry lives at the bottom of society, earning his living with odd jobs. In his free time, the taciturn man travels the city in search of lonely women, whom he then kills.
He shares an apartment with Otis, who served time in the same prison. One day Becky, Otis' sister, comes to visit and begins to feel sympathy for Henry. And this has unexpected consequences.
John McNaughton's directorial debut, made for only $100,000, is based on the biography of real-life serial killer Henry Lee Lucas. The movie surprises not so much with its gore as with its atmosphere of decay and utter hopelessness.
3. In My Skin, 2002
Esther is a 30-year-old French woman whose life is going exactly the way she always wanted it to go. She is in a happy relationship with Vincent, with whom she plans to start a family in a new house.
The idyll collapses after a party during which she accidentally injures her leg. After this seemingly insignificant incident, irreversible changes begin to happen to her.
In My Skin is an example of the French extreme, which begins as a drama, but in the end turns into a horror film with violent scenes that keep replacing each other.
4. Cannibal Holocaust, 1980
A small film crew travels deep into the Amazon to capture unique footage of a cruel tribe of cannibals. But the expedition turns tragic – all the participants disappear without a trace.
A New York professor sets out on the search, determined to uncover the truth at any cost. He finds the movie and brings it back to the US, unaware of the horrific scenes he is about to see.
The late 1970s was the golden age of spaghetti horror, giving birth to many shocking genres. One of them was movies about cannibals. The pseudo-documentary horror film, which anticipated the found footage trend by 20 years, has not become obsolete at all and can still knock you off your feet.
5. Angst, 1983
The story of a criminal who, after serving his sentence, decides to live out all his sadistic fantasies. That same night, he breaks into a house and kills all its inhabitants one by one.
The movie Angst is a dark and underrated gem of the genre, which became the first and last directorial experience of Gerald Kargl. The plot is based on the horrific crimes of Werner Kniesek, who was released from prison in 1980 and brutally murdered a family of three.
