Who was your favorite?

We are just days away from the premiere of the new season of Doctor Who, now airing on BBC One and Disney+. From the many teasers and first look stills, it is clear that the new adventures of Ncuti Gatwa's Fifteenth will be colorful. And so will his villains.

Jinkx Monsoon's Maestro (not to be confused with the Master), for example, certainly promises to be the one to remember. But will Maestro and the other antagonists of the new season manage to go down in Doctor Who history? To do so, they will have to outdo at least some of the best enemies of the modern Doctors.

Apart from the Weeping Angels, the Cybermen and the Master, who will always be part of the Whoniverse, the modern era of Doctor Who introduced some amazing stand-alone villains. They were so scary, they were burned into Whovians' brains forever. Hopefully, Maestro and the other big villains of Season 14 will be as memorable as they were.

1. The Dream Lord

Played by: Toby Jones

Appearance: S5E7 Amy's Choice

Although he had no power in the real world, the Dream Lord was probably the most dangerous of all the Doctor's enemies. He turned out to be a manifestation of the Doctor's own darkest traits and knew exactly how to trap the Ponds and Matt Smith's Eleventh in their nightmare. There's no greater enemy to a man than himself, is there?

2. The Midnight Entity

Played by: Lesley Sharp

Appearance: S4E10 Midnight

Midnight is certainly the episode that will be marveled at and re-watched for years to come. Even though we never see the true form of its monster, it is one of the most terrifying creatures to strike our fear of the unknown. First, it steals the voice of its victim, and then, by copying their words and then their thoughts, it becomes them.

3. Son Of Mine

Played by: Harry Lloyd

Appearance: S3E8&9 Human Nature/The Family Of Blood

Once you have seen them, you will never forget them. Of course, we are talking about the Family of Blood, disembodied beings who possess a human family in Season 3 in order to steal the immortality of David Tennant's Tenth. If we had to choose the most legendary of the group, it would have to be Son Of Mine, with his perpetual creepy grin.

4. The Beast

Played by: Will Thorp, Gabriel Woolf (voice)

Appearance: S2E8&9 The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit

In creating the demon trapped in the center of Krop Tor and possessing the hive mind of the Ood, the writers clearly let their imaginations run wild. The result is a truly terrifying creature that is the devil himself.

5. Metaltron

Played by: Nicholas Briggs (voice)

Appearance: S1E6 Dalek

Yep, we didn't want to include iconic villains in the list. But this Dalek is a unique one, the one that changed the game for all Daleks. The story of Metaltron aka The Lone Dalek aka The Object in Van Statten's collection is extremely deep and heartbreaking, showing that there's a lot more to do with the Doctor's ultimate adversaries than just play 'Exterminate!' on repeat.

Was Metaltron the most memorable Dalek for you?
