5 Classic Whoniverse Details That Feel Right For Ncuti Gatwa's Fifteenth
The lore of Doctor Who is vast and full of amazing tidbits.
Series 14 of Doctor Who is here with two new episodes and numerous musical numbers. The new chapter, which cements Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor, will consist of eight episodes airing one-by-one on Disney+ every Friday through June 21 and on BBC One every Saturday through June 22.
Although the Fifteenth has only had three full-length stories, including the Christmas special, his era has already introduced some new concepts to the Whoniverse. The Doctor now changes outfits, hugs a lot, and likes to break into song whenever possible. He also has the smart gloves that make climbing so much easier.
However, veteran Whovians should not feel left out, as the new episodes are filled with Easter eggs and nods to 60 years of Doctor Who lore, such as the Time and Space Telephone, the year 2150, the Timeless Child, or the Flux. But that never seems to be enough, does it?
There are a few other classic tidbits that would work brilliantly for the Fifteenth, with his retro vibes. Here are the top five, as suggested by fans on Reddit.
'Old Girl'
The Doctor has a special relationship with the TARDIS. Companions come and go, but the ingenious spaceship is always there, by his side. And the classic-era Doctors often referred to the ship as 'Old Girl,' which is somewhat reminiscent of an elderly man being nice to his crappy car that he's had forever and somehow still gets to work.
NuWho hinted at a romantic connection between the Doctor and the TARDIS, but this 'old girl-old man' bond feels much more genuine.
The Butterfly Room
Speaking of the TARDIS, there is much more to it than the control room and endless corridors, and it would be nice if Ruby and the Fifteenth explored its depths. For example, the spinoff novel series The Eighth Doctor Adventures introduced some hidden rooms. One of them was an endless field full of fresh green grass and butterflies. What a nice place to show on screen, right?
The Big Talking Bird
The Fifteenth is all accepting and infatuated with all things bizarre, so a shape-shifting companion feels right for him. There was one such iconic companion in the Doctor Who comic books. Frobisher took the form of a talking penguin and traveled with the Sixth and Seventh Doctors, winning the hearts of fans with his unique sense of humor, loyalty and resourcefulness.
Now that the legendary Beep the Meep has found a place in the new era, Frobisher's appearance is a must.
Wolsey
Another non-human companion fans would like to see in the TARDIS is not as exotic as Frobisher, but just as beloved by veteran viewers. Wolsey, the giant tabby cat, originated in the Doctor Who novels and was a pet of the Seventh Doctor. The Doctor adopted him from Earth in the 1910s.
107 Baker Street
In The Devil's Chord, the Doctor mentioned Totter's Lane, where his first incarnation lived with his granddaughter, Susan Foreman. However, this is not the only London property the Doctor had in the franchise. The audio books describe a house at 107 Baker Street. The Doctor owned it since the 19th century and used it as a base for his companions.
It is likely that the Fifteenth still owns this house, and we would love to take a look inside to see all the memorabilia left behind.
