4 Reasons Orphan Black: Echoes Is an Ultimate Watch for Every Sci-Fi Fan
The original show was good, but the spin-off takes the franchise to another level.
The original sci-fi series Orphan Black debuted in 2013 and spent five seasons following the life of Sarah Manning (played by Tatiana Maslany), who lives under the identity of her own clone.
In 2023, Krysten Ritter left her superhero identity as Jessica Jones and decided to add some new colors to the Orphan Black franchise. And Echoes is one of those cases where the spin-off turned out to be even better than the original.
1. The Spin-Off Brings Back Familiar Characters
Orphan Black: Echoes takes place about 40 years after the original story. A girl wakes up in a room and can't remember anything about herself. Sitting across from her is a woman named Dr. Kira Manning – that was the name of Sarah's daughter from Orphan Black.
The girl grew up, climbed the corporate ladder and started cloning. Krysten Ritter's character, Lucy, will spend ten episodes figuring out who to trust and who to fear in this futuristic world.
2. Echoes is One of Ritter's Best Acting Performances
Krysten Ritter is a real success for the casting director who was able to get her to work on the series. Sincere emotions, sad eyes and a sarcastic grin – Krysten uses her creative arsenal to the fullest.
There is no doubt that thanks to this show, the critics will pay attention to this series and the outstanding performance of Ritter, who is long overdue to get into the category of A-list Hollywood stars.
3. The Series Raises Interesting Questions About Clones
The main arc is built around the main character unraveling the mystery of her own origins. At the same time, it raises the important question of what comes first – genetics or upbringing.
And while most people would bet on the latter, what about the fact that the clone is initially born as an adult with erased memories? Will he be as bad as its prototype, or is it possible to become good in any environment?
4. Echoes Keeps the Intrigue Going Until the Very End
The cornerstone of any story involving clones is always the question of why they were needed in the first place. And while the answer is clear in the Star Wars franchise – the clones were created to be perfect super-soldiers – in Orphan Black: Echoes, it will be very difficult to find the answer until the very last moment.
How many genetic copies are there? Why are some clones born as adult women while others are just girls?
